Mariners designate Bradley for assignment

For a few hours, it appeared Milton Bradley had avoided being cut loose by the Mariners, as they designated Ryan Langerhans for assignment Monday morning in promoting Mike Wilson. Only now the Mariners have decided to designate Bradley for assignment, too, recalling Carlos Peguero in a corresponding move. (MLB.com via Twitter)

This move will almost certainly lead to Bradley's release. The other options are the Mariners trading Bradley to another team within 10 days -- I'll pause for laughter here -- or Bradley clearing waivers and being sent to the minors. And he'd have to accept the assignment in the latter case. So, again, the most likely scenario is Bradley is released and if any team should really want him, they could then grab him for the league minimum with the Mariners eating a little more than $9 million this season on the contract.

Bradley's contract was originally signed with the Cubs, who shipped Bradley after one tumultuous season to Seattle for another awful contract in Carlos Silva. The Mariners ended up paying Bradley a bit more than they owed Silva in the trade.

As is becoming pretty commonplace, Bradley will be leaving a pretty sour taste in the mouths of fans.

The Mariners were Bradley's eighth team and he's been in the league for 12 seasons. For a while (about 2003-2008), Bradley was a bad seed with tons of production when actually healthy and sane. Now he's just a bad seed, as he hit .209 with a .649 OPS, bad defense and several on- and off-field problems in two seasons (just 101 games) for the Mariners.

It's possible this is the end of Bradley's major-league career, but there are still 22 teams who haven't given him a shot. He'll probably get at least one more chance.

This is great, I do not think he will get another chance, he is the Latrell Spreewell of the MLB. I watched this idiot grow up in so Cal and he was a jerk at 17. He is in the most mellow media town in baseball and he still felt pressure. I can't wait for his response, will he try the race card again? Dude you are in Seattle not in one of the other cities, it is the only city in that backward ass state that race is never a factor, you can be a terriost in that city and they will like you. How about your I need some time to myself? You have been in the majors for 12 years and work half the year I think you should have found some time for yourself.
I will be shocked if another team takes a gamble on him even if the Mariners are paying the bill, Bradley will be back in Long Beach with his friends and will probably be in trouble soon.

Just Fyi... Milton was 3rd on the team for RBI, 4th for total bases, tied for 3rd for Home Runs, and 3rd in Slugging %.
He had a better batting average than Michael Saunders, Adam Moore, Ryan Langerhans, Luis Rodriguez, Brendan Ryan, ChodaBoy Figgins, Miguel Olivo, and Jack Cust.
Mariners care too much about being family friendly. Like when they forced people to take off their "Yankees Suck" t-shirts.  It's almost as if we have two WNBA teams here in Seattle.

He happened to have the bat in his hand because he was hitting. And the pitch was way outside (the pitch tracker even showed that). He has a better batting average than others on the team including Cust who cant even field.  Give the guy a break.  As I recall he had a great hussle play not long ago where he caught a ball that was going in to the stands.  People need something/someone to gang up on and it's usually the guy with the thinnest skin.  These people are called bullies and they should all take a long hard look in the mirror.

No, that's a guy who isn't thinking, period.  He simply loses control.  No self discipline in that area.  Good and great players have that discipline.  Too, bad, because he had lots of talent in other areas.

Oh I'm not sure that fat boring fans can't see a bad play off the left field wall. Or a stupid throw to miss the cut-off man to let two score and another man advance. Or like on Friday night at home park he goes after the ump with his bat in hand. That's not what good baseball is in any park from major league to single A. That's a guy who is thinking that he is bigger than the game, that can't play D and wants to break a ball game into a hockey game... because he can't hit either.

I'm disappointed to see Bradley go. His firey attitude was a nice break from the fat, boring, uninformed fans that frequent safeco field. The M's brought the Penguin up from AAA Tacoma. Hopefully he has a better outing this go around.

Yeah, Let's have a guy sitting on the bench who is a baseball teams version of EBOLA. The guys would probably want to want to wear sealed suits or at least a mask and ear muffs, so all there holes to their inner body are covered so they don't get what he has. It's called anto social behavior. If you hear it it can affect you. If you ingest it can infect you. Either way if you take it in, you might be done.

A bad apple is called so because the bacteria it posseses will eventually work it's way throughout the barrell. Then there isn't one bad apple but they all are rotting.

Just a question of time......

Behaving like a nutcase, and hitting .218 is not a career-enhancing combination.

Bradleys career stats are horrible!!    The other main thing is who on earth gave this lunatic 9 million a year???   Bradley is crazy but the GM who gave him this deal is totally insane!!
