Scott Cousins of the Marlins barrelled over Giants catcher Buster Posey in a home plate collision that broke Posey's leg two nights ago. Since then, the talk of baseball has centered around the play -- namely, if there should be more protection for catchers and a discussion of whether the hit was dirty. Every dimension has been covered ad nauseam, but we hadn't heard from Posey himself. Until now.

Friday afternoon, Posey spoke to some Giants' beat writers and -- while remaining respectful -- he doesn't sound pleased with Cousins. Posey believes he left a lane for Cousins to slide into home plate without contact and that "[Cousins] chose to come at me." (Andrew Baggerly via Twitter)

Posey also reportedly said plays like this should be reviewed by the league and the players union and that he's not interested in talking to Cousins (Hank Schulman via Twitter), who has reportedly left several messages with Posey that haven't been returned.

“I don’t know if it really matters. If it’s something that would make him feel better … I can imagine if I was on the other end, that would be just about as difficult to know that a play you were involved in has more than likely put somebody out for the rest of the year. But again, I’m kind of indifferent, I guess.” (Extra Baggs)

Posey also said of Cousins, "I want to make this very clear: I don’t know Cousins, I’m not out to villify Cousins in any way whatsoever. It happened and it’s over with."

As for his own recovery, Posey expressed that he is likely out for the season. It's a sentiment that was reported, but then there seemed to be some hope he might make it back when it was revealed there was no damage to his knee.

pamoose...the major difference is that MLB cares about Posey and they care less about Buck.  Posey is an up and coming star with a ROY award and a WS ring.  Buck is a guy who's lucky to have a job.  MLB will take a look at this and the rule will be changed.  As for calling him a B***H, you sit there, take that shot, and then talk, big man.  I don't know what you do for a living, but if someone possibly destroyed what I do for a living, I'd be pissed as well.  Oh yeah, that's right, guys like you do NOTHING for a living except berate others who are ten times more talented.  Unless you've caught a game in the majors, and have taken the jolt that Posey took, you have no room to be thowing around names.  All-star?..at what?  You don't deserve the title.

Posey speaks to reporters, not happy with Cousins

There is no crying in baseball. Posey new the risks when he CHOSE to become a catcher. I caught for 15 years through college. It is a risk we take. We are also taught how to protect ourselves and line up correctly, also how to apply a nasty tag if needed. Posey left himself exposed. He should never have gone to both knees, he put himself in that situation. Taking the catcher out to jar the ball has always been part of the game. Next you are going to tell me we can't break up a double play. This is not T-ball or Little League. For Posey and his agent to come out with the list of objections the next day to present to ESPN and the players union was the most pathetic and embarassing thing I have ever seen in my 40 years. Posey has to be from a rich spoiled family who has always pampered him. Next we will see a high priced attorney team representing Posey and suing MLB,the Marlins and cousins.

WHAT A FLIPPING JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posey speaks to reporters, not happy with Cousins

I don't really think anything he is saying is "crying" about the situation. All he did was talk to reporters about it and say how he felt. All of the haters are coming out to barage him for stating how he felt about the situation. It's not like he is calling Cousins out or anything. Any one of you if in the same position as Posey would feel the same way he did so stop acting like you don't and shut it.

It doesn't matter if he was blocking the plate at the moment of impact. That isn't really the issue. Posey moved through the runners path and until the last instant where he had to move slightly in front of the plate to block a short throw he was blocking the plate with his left leg. It is what ever catcher does every time there is a bang-bang play at the plate. If the throw isn't so short he doesn't move forward at the last second to catch it. Either way it isn't Cousins' responsibility to say "well he just moved a foot in front of the plate so I guess I'll pull up and slide instead". His best bet was still to blast the catcher because if the ball is caught cleanly he is out.

Catchers have been run over since baseball started.  For a catcher to cry about being hurt because he was run over blocking the plate,  well, so much for todays players.  I guess growing  up and having his mommy wipe his nose every time he got a boo boo left his soft.

Take the hit like a man, realize it's part of the game and let it go at that.  If you can't catch anymore because of that broken leg, you can hit well enough the Giants will find a place either at first or the outfield for you.

If you haven't caught the ball yet, then don't put your body in the base path.  It belongs as much to the runner as it does the catcher.

With a name like "Posey" it figures he would cry himself a river. What happened to the good ol' days when catchers were tough guys built like a brick sh#t house that could take it? Now you got all these wimpy pretty boys like Posey and Mauer who want all the glory and everything to come easy without paying the price and being tough and gritty like a catcher's supposed to.

Pete Rose took out Ray Fosse at the plate in an all-star game.It was a way dirtier play than this one. I never heard Fosse cry about it. He was never the same player after the collision either. Quit being a baby Posey.

he wasn't blocking the plate. Watch the video, we all have many a time. Do they not have videos in Florida? I know they have "hanging chads."
