MLB investigates A-Rod's cousin, finds no issue

By Matt Snyder

The cousin who Alex Rodriguez said was his accomplice to using PEDs back in 2003 has been spotted at the Yankees team hotel on a recent road trip, according to the New York Daily News. In turn, Major League Baseball is investigating what kind of access, if any, has been granted to Yuri Sucart -- the cousin in question. (ESPN New York)

During spring training of 2009, Rodriguez discussed with reporters his drug use back in 2003, and said that he had a cousin who would travel to the Dominican Republic and get access to performance-enhancing drugs and bring them back for Rodriguez's use. Though the name was never used, that cousin was later revealed to be Sucart. Since then, Sucart has been banned by the Yankees from having contact with the team and MLB has forbidden him from gaining access to restricted areas.

Thus, when Sucart was spotted at a hotel in San Francisco where the Yankees stayed during their series against the Oakland A's -- in addition to the Daily News report that Sucart has been a "constant presence" on the road for the Yankees since last season -- a red flag was raised.

Sucart is not, however -- and could not be -- banned from maintaining a relationship with his cousin or seeing him in any public place (such as a hotel).

I wouldn't call this a witch hunt just yet, but it's hard to get worked up about a player hanging out with his cousin -- especially since pretty much everyone involved in the initial situation said Sucart was only doing what A-Rod asked him to. If Sucart is being granted access to the locker room, that needs to stop, but if he's just visiting with his cousin, I'd say there's nothing to see here. Any suggestion that Sucart is going to somehow harm Rodriguez would be suggesting that A-Rod had no idea in the first place what drugs he was doing in 2003 -- which is obviously ridiculous.

UPDATE: ESPN.com is reporting that Major League Baseball has resolved the issue and found nothing wrong. Just as I suspected, it was much ado about nothing.

MLB investigates A-Rod's cousin, finds no issue

Whether A-Roid is back on the juice or not, he's certainly guilty of gross stupidity for allowing the cousin who was his drug-runner to pal around with him on the road.  Why not hang out with him in the off-season in Miami, or in NY when the Yankees are at home?  Why on the road?  If you need a personal assistant, hire someone or use another cousin or something.  Sorry, Yankee fans, but hanging with your one-time drug caddy is just plain stupid--what the heck did he think people would say and think??

And I'm not a Sawx fan, so don't bring up that recycled stuff.

MLB investigates A-Rod's cousin, finds no issue

A-Fraud / A-Roid is a liar and anyone who believes he only took PED's for 3 years is frankly an idiot!

Listen man.  If you think the only people that got caught were the people that we know of through the "investigations" then you are the moron... not us.   I'm not a Yankee fan at all, as a matter of fact I don't like the Yankees one bit and I've smashed them on CBS in various threads multiple times.  But I respect Arod because he's a great player and in my opinion should be a first ballot hall of famer.

I'm a huge sports fan and a big fan of the NFL as well.  There is an example of AN ENTIRE LEAGUE full of players on drugs.  Anybody that thinks it's natural for a 350 pound man to run a 40 even almost as fast as a normal non athlete at half their size has crap for brains.  Anybody that thinks NFL players don't use illegal drugs to heal faster while playing a game that physical is crazy.  But you see, here's the thing.  The government and NFL don't want to take drugs out of the game.  If they do they'll have to suspend or remove a ridiculous number of NFL starters and the quality of the game will immediately change.  A lot of top college athletes will be useless as well... less quality means less people watching going to games. That means less revenue for everybody, including the cities that have a stake in NFL teams and the government that'll lose billions in tax money from not only the NFL but businesses everywhere that'll suffer.

MLB was easy to go after because they could do bust people without hurting the quality of the game...  All Arod did last year after admitted to using drugs is hit 30 hr's and 124 rbi's in 137 games.  Pro rated over an entire season that works out to about 145 rbi's which would have almost matched the best season he had while supposedly taking steroids.... sure he's slowing down now but what's this, his 18th season in baseball?

Give me a break... people need to separate their hate for the Yankees when it comes to things like this.. like I said, I'm not Yankee fan... not at all... but c'mon..... this is getting stupid now.

MLB investigates A-Rod's cousin, finds no issue

I'm not condoning A-ROD'S use of PEDs, but I would like to know why his was the only name revealed in that list of 104 players who tested
positive. Amphetamines,( also PEDs ) were used in Pro Baseball for decades and yet there was never any outrage over that. Why not?

Keith- let me further this one better for you.  How come Manny 'retires' once he is rumored to be caught 'roiding' and the story fizzles only after a few days?  A-rod is not guilty of anything here in this story (except for maybe being dumb enough to hang out with his cousin knowing what people are going to look for), and I guarantee you the haters will make this story stick for weeks.

Quite honestly, I don't think we're going to see any more names leaked out.  It was someone who had an personal target on A-rod and leaked his name.  If the idiot who leaked it had any sense at all, he would have probably tried to extort money from Arod himself.

Giambi, Clemens, A-rod, how many more?  Not just trying to bash the Yankees but they were a leader in roid usage but that does not excuse many of the other players that had to use the performance enhancing drugs.  All of them should be prohibited from the Hall of Fame until Pete Rose is admitted.  What Rose did on the field epitomizes the Hall of Fame.  Only Roid user I would really consider the Hall was Bonds as his credentials were established before he did the roids and ballooned his numbers.

MLB investigates A-Rod's cousin, finds no issue

Why is it the only time the Yankees Alex Rodriguez is mentioned is in the use of ped's. His cousin has been traveling with the Yankees since last season sounds awful fishy to me. This really is not news worthy in my opinion. Then you get the Red Sox haters to try to deflect their shame to the Red Sox. Folks that's not fair by the talking heads that bring this crap up by writing a non story and Yankee fans writing about a story that Major League Baseball resolved the issue and found nothing wrong. Even sounding fishy Just as I suspected it was much ado about nothing.
