MLB investigates A-Rod's cousin, finds no issue

By Matt Snyder

The cousin who Alex Rodriguez said was his accomplice to using PEDs back in 2003 has been spotted at the Yankees team hotel on a recent road trip, according to the New York Daily News. In turn, Major League Baseball is investigating what kind of access, if any, has been granted to Yuri Sucart -- the cousin in question. (ESPN New York)

During spring training of 2009, Rodriguez discussed with reporters his drug use back in 2003, and said that he had a cousin who would travel to the Dominican Republic and get access to performance-enhancing drugs and bring them back for Rodriguez's use. Though the name was never used, that cousin was later revealed to be Sucart. Since then, Sucart has been banned by the Yankees from having contact with the team and MLB has forbidden him from gaining access to restricted areas.

Thus, when Sucart was spotted at a hotel in San Francisco where the Yankees stayed during their series against the Oakland A's -- in addition to the Daily News report that Sucart has been a "constant presence" on the road for the Yankees since last season -- a red flag was raised.

Sucart is not, however -- and could not be -- banned from maintaining a relationship with his cousin or seeing him in any public place (such as a hotel).

I wouldn't call this a witch hunt just yet, but it's hard to get worked up about a player hanging out with his cousin -- especially since pretty much everyone involved in the initial situation said Sucart was only doing what A-Rod asked him to. If Sucart is being granted access to the locker room, that needs to stop, but if he's just visiting with his cousin, I'd say there's nothing to see here. Any suggestion that Sucart is going to somehow harm Rodriguez would be suggesting that A-Rod had no idea in the first place what drugs he was doing in 2003 -- which is obviously ridiculous.

UPDATE: ESPN.com is reporting that Major League Baseball has resolved the issue and found nothing wrong. Just as I suspected, it was much ado about nothing.

MLB investigates A-Rod's cousin, finds no issue

Find it funny that whenever Arod is brought up and it has to do with steroids, Some Fanatic Homer Yankee Arod  fan  right away bring up the Red Sox as if this will deflect the story from what it is about

Say what you want about Ortiz . Fact is Arod  got caught in a lie on National TV  to Katie Couric on how he never took anything and only came clean when he was about to be exposed for the liar he is. Fact also Arod in 07 when he opted out of his contract begged the Yankees to take him back as he knew the list was coming out and was afraid he was gonna be named .

So deflect away about Ortiz all you like, doesn't change a thing. The story is about Arod not The Red Sox. Guess the media is nothing but Red Sox fans and are picking on poor Arod.Undecided

Instead of deflecting and whining about the Sox and "Their Tainted Titles"  Look at your Yankees and their Tainted Teams!

MLB investigates A-Rod's cousin, finds no issue

You are the only idiot if you think he was doing them his whole career. He has been one of the most consistent players in the history of baseball and has stayed very healthy throughout his career. If he was taking steroids for 10 to 15 years he would have had nagging injuries through his whole career and missed a lot of games and spent numerous times on the DL. He didn't even take them for 3 years and he has passed hundreds of tests in the last few years. This is a non story and only made into 1 because it is A-Rod. You only hear negatives about him. A few years back while on a trip to Boston to play the Sox he saved a child from being hit by a car and it got 2 seconds of airtime on the news. If it was one of the Sox players they would have spent the whole broadcast praising him and even cut into other broadcasts to talk about it. He is one of the greatest players to ever play the game so deal with it!
Please post this story so we can all give Alex the credit he deserves for this wonderful act. That being said...he's still a PED using D-bag. Yankee fans (especially Killaz...and his obvious Red Sox fixation) will continuously try and deflect ANY and ALL factual references to Yankee player PED use by throwing Manny and Ortiz under the bus. Were these 2 guys using PED's during the Red Sox championship runs? Manny...definitely, Ortiz...possibly. What does this do to detract from those two titles...ZERO,NADA,NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!! Until you can prove to me, and anyone else who gives a rip, that ALL of the players on any given team that won a title recently (in the last 25 years) were PED free...I just don't give a rats ass! Amphetamines were widely used by players in the 70's and 80's to give them an edge and NOBODY cared. David Wells (I believed he played most of his years, the good ones anyway, with the Yankees Killaz) has said numerous times that if a guy playing behind him that day wasn't "beaning up" he didn't think the guy wanted to win as bad. Is this any better than what we have going on now?

p.s. Are you sure Alex didn't just run by the kid and yell "HA!" to scare him out of the way? Seems to me that he might just have done that before somewhere...(At least he didn't try and knock the kids ice cream out of his hand while he was running by and then stand there trying to look innocent...that would just be inconceivable. Oh wait,...he did that once too didn't he...?)

MLB investigates A-Rod's cousin, finds no issue

Alex Rodriguez has much talent and makes it go a long way with making the large bills with the ny yankees and shooting the PEDs. His name ended up on the steroids list for a reason one of them being associated with Jose Canseco. His scape goat was Yuri Sucrat, now he is guilty on multiple associations! Will he associate with Surcat from now on?? We will see....

It's a witch hunt with Alex, everything he does he's dragged in the mud. Remember when Ortiz was accused of taking PEDs, but he said they were milkshakes, and that's it everyone is fine with it, Ortiz said they were milkshakes so leave the big lovable guy alone, Ortiz's numbers spiked when he came to Boston and hooked up with known user Manny, but hey big lovable Ortiz never took anything did he.
It's always a witch hunt with the Yanks. Same with the "Investigation" into steroid use and the "list". The investigation was done by an employee of the Red Sox and go figure....The biggest names were Yankee players. Ortiz, Manny and I'm SURE many other Red Sox have used or are currently using. I'd bet the house on it.  How many other users did the Red Sox have? Who knows but the thing is; 2004 and 2007 will ALWAYS be tainted by Manny and Ortiz (and many others I'm sure). It's a baseball fact....the sooner everyone realizes it the better.......But the "*" in as the Steroid Era and be done with it.....

MLB investigates A-Rod's cousin, finds no issue

This guy is a family member and I think that alot of people on here associate the cousin with juicing. MLB doesnt have a problem with it and neither do the Yankees. Is it a bad choice? Yes....does it mean he is juicing? No

Haters need to get over it....for real!

IF (and that's a BIG if) ARod is juicing again, it certainly isn't helping his power numbers.  He hasn't hit a home run in almost a month.

Even A-Rod is smart enough not to try the same thing again.
