Braves left fielder Martin Prado has been placed on the disabled list with a staph infection in his right calf muscle ( The infection was reportedly discovered Tuesday, and Prado was then hit in the left knee by an errant throw in that evening's game at Florida. That caused him to miss the following two games with what was said to be a left knee contusion. Meanwhile, the infection in his right knee must have gotten worse, as it's landed him on the DL.

As of Friday afternoon, there's no timetable for his return.

Losing Prado is a blow to the Braves' already-ailing offense. Jason Heyward is already on the DL and the Braves are in the bottom third of the NL in runs scored, batting average and on-base percentage. Prado is hitting .277 with eight home runs, 33 RBI, 36 runs, 17 doubles and a .761 OPS. Matt Young and Eric Hinske are likely to man the corner outfield positions until either Heyward or Prado return.
