HallBy Evan Brunell

The San Francisco Giants signed infielder Bill Hall to a contract and Hall is available off the bench on Saturday. The deal comes in light of second baseman Freddy Sanchez's dislocated shoulder suffered Friday night. Hitting .289/.332/.397 on the year, Sanchez is expected to miss significant time which will open up second for regular playing time for Hall, although Mike Fontenot will also play liberally at the position once he comes off the DL, which should be in a matter of days, unless his setback Friday knocks him out for a longer period of time.

The Giants are scraping to improve their offense and while Hall's .224/.272/.340 mark this year for the Astros is hardly offense, he did bang out 18 home runs for the Red Sox as a super-utility player over 382 plate appearances. Hall has a chance to stick with the Giants the rest of the year, as the club is nearing an outright release of Opening Day shortstop Miguel Tejada, who has offered nothing with the bat. Once Fontenot and third baseman Pablo Sandoval return shortly, Tejada could get the boot. If he stays on, Tejada will have to outproduce Hall to remain with the club once Sanchez returns.

MAO at a Dodger fan really having the nerve to call anyone's owner a loser, the irony is just too funny.  Dodger fan then goes on to say the Giants were lucky last year which is like saying the Dodgers were lucky when they last won the World Series, when was that, oh yeah, 1988.  I say again 1988, since then those lucky Giants have been in 3 World Series, good thing you jumped on the packer bandwagon in January or else you wouldn't have any worth while team to support and it’s a good thing they won or else he would’ve been a Steeler fan.

On a side note and stating the obvious, Tejada and Hall suck, times are indeed tough when you are down to these two clowns like the first poster said!

The Giants used up all of their luck last year as you well know. With the loser that you have as a GM it's a long long wait for another title in old SF. Deal with itl.

Talk about a sorry situation, one washup veteran competing with another for a job that neither one of them deserve. But I guess this is the Bay area and we don't deserve hitting, only pitching. Tejada had started to hit a bit the last few games and I have a hard time seeing them keeping Hall over him unless he comes in raking (unlikely).
