Jeter Watch: Two more hits

Derek JeterA middle infielder recorded a nice, round number in Sunday's Indians-Yankees game, but it wasn't Derek Jeter. Instead, Cleveland second baseman Orlando Cabrera recorded his 2,000th career hit in the second inning of the Yankees' 9-1 victory. The ball bounced off Jeter's glove and into left field and it was ruled a single. Cabrera is the 262nd player to record 2,000 hits and is the 17th active player to reach the milestone.

As for Jeter, he had two hits, keeping alive his attempt to record his 3,000th hit at Yankee Stadium. With his two hits, he's at 2,993 in his career and needs seven more to get to 3,000 and has four more games on this homestead. The Yankees play the Indians Monday night and then host the Rangers for three games before going to Chicago to face the Cubs at Wrigley Field for three games.

SUNDAY: Jeter went 2 for 5, with RBI singles in both the fifth inning and the eighth inning.

ALL-TIME LIST: Jeter will stand at 28th until he ties Roberto Clemente at 3,000.

NEXT UP: Jeter has never faced Indians right-hander Carlos Carrasco, Carrasco held the Twins to just three hits and no runs in 8 1/3 innings on Tuesday and is 5-3 with a 4.52 ERA this season. Right-handers are hitting .300/.337/.509 off Carrasco this season.

Jeter Watch: Two more hits

This is lunacy, are they going to update us every time this guy gets a hit? I dont want to hear about it intil he actually gets to 3,000. Every time I go online or turn on ESPN, all I hear is 'Jeter this, Jeter that', I will be so glad when he hits 3,000 so people can start saying he sucks again.

Redsox nation chiming in...I respect and think Derek Jeter is one of the most classy people in baseball.  I commend him on his to be accomplishment.  He deserves every ounce of praise he get.  The future Hall of Famer has defined what a Yankee is for 15 years now.

Jeter Watch: Two more hits

You all know how I feel about the Yankees (I have's in the Red Sox hand book) Wink. That being said...i'm pulling hard for Jeter to get that 3,000th hit at home. He and the fans of New York deserve to enjoy this HUGE acheivement when it happens...

quietly your guy jeter is hitting the ball again...
Huh?  His batting average is the same (.264) as it was ten days ago - which is also .019 less than he was hitting eleven days before that...

Jeter Watch: Two more hits

I hate the Yankees! I hate the Pinstripes,I abhor A-Rod, I hate the attitude, and I hate the Steinbrenner's! That being said, I do like a few of the players. Curtis is crushing the ball (the tigers still got the better end of that trade), I like the catcher, but most of all I think that Jeter is the class of the team. No steroids or DUI's and basically no trouble at all. Remember that he was just a kid when he came up and did nothing but played and acted like a professional. When he hits his 3000th later this week still not be watching the game but quietly I'll raise a beer and toast the pride of K-zoo.

Jeter Watch: Two more hits

If Jeets pulls off getting 3000 on this homestand, it will add to the legend.  Don't think he will, but it would be sweet.
