The Marlins are cursed when it comes to U2.

Not only did Florida have to move a home series with the Mariners to Seattle this weekend (allowing Mariner fans to see Felix Hernandez bat in Safeco Field, as the series was played under NL rules) to allow U2 time to prepare with its extensive stage, but U2 came close to affecting Florida's series in Oakland on Tuesday, the Palm Beach Post notes.

U2 played a concert on June 7 in Oakland, which required the field to be re-sodded. Heavy rains pounded the area Tuesday, causing a mess with the sod which has yet to root properly. While Florida and Oakland were able to start their game at 11:15, the game was almost canceled thanks to the sod.

"U2 hates us. Bono's against us, too," catcher John Buck said, laughing. "What is the world coming to?'

Pitcher Brian Sanchez, meanwhile, had a great idea for how U2 can make up for the inconvenience.

"I think Bono should give us free passes to one of his concerts in everybody's respective hometowns wherever he comes through in the offseason."

I think this should say why do the Marlins hate the Marlins.  What professional team would schedule a concert when they know that they're team is supposed to be playing a home stand at the same time.  Also, if that were to happen to a professional team why wouldn't you hold the game at some neutral site say oh I don't know the empty Rays stadium only a few miles away.  No instead they'd rather turn a home series into an away series.  I thought my Cubs had terrible management (they do) but seriously, what the hell was the Marlins front office thinking.  If the Cubs were stupid enough to sched a concert when they were supposed to play I'd expect them to play at US Cellular. Not the other teams park.

U2 screwed up the turf so bad in Anaheim that there were 9 errors in the last 2 ames plus several others that could have been called errors. Someone is going to get hurt out there, The field is a disaster. STOP HAVING CONCERTS DURING THE BASEBALL SEASON IN BASEBALL STADIUMS!

At DBowman - "The Panthers had their worst season for getting fans into the building the year they went to the Stanley Cup finals in 2005 (go ahead, look it up-- they couldn't get 14k a game the year they almost won it all) in only their 3rd year of existance." The NHL was in a lock out during the 2004-2005 season, and the Hurricanes played Oilers in the Stanley cup during the 2005-2006 season. I think you are referring to the Panthers playing in the Stanley Cup during the 1996 season.

Don't want to be that guy, but the Panthers went to The Cup finals in 1996, not 2005. Which makes the Miami situation even worse.
