Is your team a Brewster, Rogers or Bundy?

Here's a little piece of advice to Major League teams -- if you have to ask yourself if you're in or out of the playoff race, you're out.

Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman writes that the Padres are already looking to sell, while the A's, Twins and Mets are unsure if they're ready to sell. Again, if you have to ask, you're a seller.

As many teams have played their 81st game of the season, you're either Montgomery Brewster, Kenny Rogers or Al Bundy.

Montgomery Brewster (buying everything in sight): Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers, Rangers, Angels, Phillies, Braves, Brewers, Cardinals and Giants.

Kenny Rogers (the gambler, know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em): Rays, Indians, White Sox, Mariners, Pirates, Reds, Diamondbacks and Rockies.

Al Bundy (everyone's favorite sad-sack shoe salesman): Blue Jays, Orioles, Twins, Royals, A's, Mets, Nationals, Marlins, Cubs, Astros, Dodgers and Padres.

The Kenny Rogers teams all think they're in it now, but they've got to be able to lay down their hand if the cards don't land in their favor in the next few weeks. THere's no reason to lose money in a futile attempt at the right card coming up.

Perhaps the one team I had the most trouble figuring out was the Twins -- their roster and division say they're in it, their disabled list and slow start say they're out. The team has had so much success, appearing in the playoffs in six of the last nine seasons, it may be best to say someone upstairs is just not going to let it happen again this season.

i think it's interesting that the rays and cardinals are in exact opposite situations (that is that the rays best bat -longoria is finally healthy and showing some life and the cards just lost pujols for another month or more)  yet the cards made the brewsters and rays didnt.  shouldn't they be trending oppositely...
