Dodgers Saga
By Matt Snyder

The Los Angeles Dodgers -- who recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection -- issued payroll checks to some "game day staff members" that bounced, according to TMZ.com. The website actually obtained a check for $497.54 that shows it was returned to the employee by the bank and was stamped with "refer to maker," which means there were insufficient funds in the Dodgers' account. The check was signed by Dodgers owner Frank McCourt and issued on June 24. TMZ notes the Dodgers said that some checks did bounce but have since been reissued.

I'll pause until the laughter dies down. OK, let's move on to some bad news.

The judge overseeing the Dodgers' bankruptcy hearing set 10 different hearing dates for the case Thursday. The bad news for Dodgers fans and anyone else sick of this mess already -- the latter group includes myself -- is that the last hearing date is set for Jan. 25, 2012 (LATimes.com). So, yes, this is going to drag all the way into next year.

In the meantime, Dodgers employees better not spend their money until their paycheck definitely clears.

Report: Dodgers bounce payroll checks

The Dodgers a once proud franchise have become an utter embarassment to baseball. When is Bud selig and the owners going to waske up and realize u need a man like Mark Cuban in your game insteas of letting guys buy teams on a credit card or payment installments.CUban could buy this team pay cash and make the Dodgers relevant again in a hurry.

Report: Dodgers bounce payroll checks

Even though this may drag out until January, I have hope of a new owner for next season. I have to hold on to that little sliver of hope, because these are the darkest days I have ever witnessed as a Dodger's fan. I have followed the team since the 70's and I have seen some good times and bad times. I had the chance to witness my personal greatest World Series moment when Gibson hit his homer in 88 and the great pitching of Hershiser and Valenzuela. Those days are gone and as long as McCourt is in charge, I have no hope to witness moments like that again. Maybe, all of us Dodger fans will get a Christmas present and find out something early. Come on Santa, we want a new owner for Christmas.

The issue you have in L.A. is the same as what we have now in Chicago.  MLB does a horrible job in vetting potential owners, and is clearly more interested in who will "play ball" with the other owners and not who is best for the game.  This is how self-serving scumbags like McCourt, or even James Bond Villain types like Murdoch before that, are allowed to own teams.  It's why when they were narrowing the field to three finalists here in Chicago, a Mark Cuban was not in the running, and we would up with a wienie with too little money to operate the team effectively.  Now that this sap who MLB approved to own the team is embarrasing them, Selig and friends want to get rid of him, but it isn't so simple, so they are trying their best to nix his ability to stay afloat.  Sorry, Bud, you made your bed, now you can lie in it, and let's hope you do a better job of deciding who you are going to allow to buy a team next time.

Report: Dodgers bounce payroll checks

A once proud franchise....as far as MLB is concerned this team can't be sold to a new owner fast enough.  Frank McCourt and his ex have really turned a proud and valuable franchise into a total laughingstock.  I don't care for Mark Cuban but he would certainly make this a franchise that people would respect again...Frank McCourt....go away, you failed!

Couldn't Frank McCourt also be accused of intentionally floating bad checks since he knew few of the people receiving checks on Friday could have them cleared before filing for bankrupcty on Monday would have frozen all team accounts?

"TMZ notes the Dodgers said that some checks did bounce but have since been reissued."

All that work for nothing, man.  That's why we read articles before we post.

Entity......do your research before you give McCourt any consideration for being nothing less than a pathetic example of a quality owner.

Under the leadership of Peter O'Malley, from 1970-1998, the Dodgers went 2372-2035 and won five National League titles and two World Series. During O'Malley's ownership, from 1979-1998, the Dodgers went 1514-1365 and won two National League titles and two World Series.

Not a McCourt fan, and getting harder and harder to be a Dodger fan, but seeing your comment makes me glad I am a fan of proper English and logic.  You should seriously think about putting a lock on your keyboard so you can't access it.
