Dodgers fire Steve Garvey

By Matt Snyder

Former Dodgers first baseman Steve Garvey has been fired from the team's marketing and community relations department (ESPN Los Angeles). The news in and of itself isn't particularly compelling, as the job wasn't even remotely high-profile, but there's a small item of interest here. Reportedly, the firing is a reaction by the Frank McCourt administration to the news that Garvey has interest in buying the Dodgers -- once McCourt is no longer the owner, of course.

Garvey is putting together a group that hopes to make a serious run at Dodgers ownership, should it become available, and he's looped in former Dodgers ace Orel Hershiser. The group is now being called the Garvey-Hershiser Group.

Garvey, 62, played for the Dodgers for 14 seasons, going to the World Series four times, winning once. He hit .294 with 272 home runs and 2,599 hits in his career.

The firing of Steve Garvey is a real "punk move" made by McCourt! He's trying to do any and everything possible to not give up the Dodgers when he can barely make payroll. For him to fire Garvey because he has interest in buying the team along with Hershiser, another Dodger great is "messed-up"! It really looks bad for McCourt because he'll also be known as the man who fired Steve Garvey as well as bringing down the whole Dodger organization!Yell

Forget about a Garvey - Hershiser group buying the dodgers when McBankrupt is gone. It'll take a 800m to a billion dollars to buy the dodgers and this group aint got it.

From The Desk of Steve Garvey:

Step 1.  Get out from underneath current Loser, Owner Frank McCourt.

Step 2.  Gather financial power using Orel and my contacts in financial, entertainment and Baseball circles.

Step 3.  Get Bud Selig on the phone.

Step 4.  Tell Mark Cuban to back off or get on board as a minority owner.

Step 4.  Use Orel as the Face Of  Ownership and let him run with it.  (Everybody respects Orel Hershiser IV.)

Step 5.  Take over.

Alphabetical, no doubt.
