Jimenez leaves after one inning, ready for trade

In one of the weirdest outings you'll ever see from a starting pitcher, Ubaldo Jimenez took the mound for his soon-to-be-former team Saturday night. The Rockies were in the process of finalizing a trade that will send Jimenez to the Indians for a package of prospects, but Jimenez was scheduled to start at 5:35 p.m. PT.

And start he did. But he was awful. He allowed four walks, two doubles and four earned runs in the first inning. Interestingly, Esmil Rogers had been warming up in the Colorado bullpen since the game started. When Jimenez got to the dugout after his inning, he was greeted with a hug first by manager Jim Tracy and then followed by every single person in the dugout. On the broadcast, viewers were unable to hear and of the words being said to Jimenez, but it appeared everyone was saying bye and wishing him well at his new home.

It's unclear why the Rockies bothered to start Jimenez at all, considering Rogers was warming up in the bullpen from the get-go, but it was certainly a risky proposition -- what if he got hurt? All's well that ends well, though, as the Rockies appear to have brought in quite the haul for Jimenez.

Jimenez leaves after one inning, ready for trade

As a life long Indians fan it's refreshing to see them pull out all the stops and get the best pitcher available, rather than throw in the towel and continue to build.  I guess they're thinking is they have a chance to get their young players some playoff experience this year and have a chance to build on that success each of the next 2 years.

It's quite a risk, as the players they traded away are studs!  I'm sure at least one of them will pan out to be very special players for the Rockies.  Lets hope Ubaldo turns out to be very special for the Tribe.

Jimenez leaves after one inning, ready for trade

He pitched because it is his job and because the Indians might have been holding out a player and the Rockies said fine, we will pitch him tonight and hold onto him until further notice. Why not? He is a low cost All Star/Cy calibur pitcher so give us (the Rockies) what we want.

The Indians buckled and gave up a 4th player...it seems pretty obvious from here.

Can someone please trade for BJ please?

Thanks.
