Yadier Molina

By C. Trent Rosecrans

Tuesday night's Cardinals-Brewers game was highly entertaining, but it took a very ugly turn in the 10th inning when St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina spit in the face of home plate umpire Rob Drake after bumping him at least three times.

Molina didn't appear to rear back and spit directly in the face Roberto Alomar-style, but he was yelling and Drake was the victim of collateral spit and obviously wiped his face multiple times. Even as Molina was in the dugout and still yelling at Drake, the umpire used his shirt to wipe spittle from his face.

Molina watched a called third strike at the knees to lead off the top of the 10th inning and went nuts on Drake -- bumping Drake twice and then after Drake tried to turn away, Molina came back and bumped him again. Molina was ejected after the first bump. Molina denied spitting on Drake.

"That was a bad call," Molina told reporters, including Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I never spit on any face or man. In the moment, I was yelling. I didn't spit."

Molina had to be held back by teammates and coaches as he continued to go after Drake.

Here's a gif of Molina going berserk from Twitter user @soccerkevin11:

And for the record, Pitch F/X showed the pitch was a ball -- even though that's no excuse for Molina's reaction.

Umpires refused to comment after the game.

Hey BreakingB25- First of all, you might want to retake that fifth grade grammar class that you obviously slept through. Secondly, what is this "we" sh#t? Was that you on the end of the bench wearing the "BB" jersey or are you being called up when the expand the rosters next month? You sir, are an assbag. I will be thinking of you in October when we - I mean the Brewers - are still playing and the falling house of Cards are deciding how many millions they are going to overpay Pujols for the next eight years.

skreffty, I'm a little confused.  Where are they going to deport him?  He's an American citizen with a US passport.  Just trying to figure out any logic behind this statement.

Common criminal?  Violent thug?  Were you watching the same thing I was?  How many times have we seen white managers, or even players get into face to face arguments with a umpire?  How many times have you seen those same people bump umpires?  But now because the player is Puerto Rican he is a criminal and a thug?  "Get those deportation papers going"??  Wow.  The real problem here is not Molina, it is that you sir are a racist.  Your comments display that you are nothing more than an ignorant, redneck racist.  I am surprised that you have internet in your trailer.  Go back to sleeping with your sister now, your comments won't be missed.
It has nothing to do with his race.  I also admonished the lily-white Vancouver hockey player who spit during the Stanley Cup.  I advise you brush up on your reading comprehension skills a bit before slinging racism stones there Skippy.  So how is it that I, who holds all races to the same standard that spitting is filthy and beyond comprehension, am a racist?

Funny how after accusing my consistent analysis, regardless of the spitter's race, of somehow being racist, that you immedietely jump into a stereotype-laden personal rant?  So you argue against racism, well horribly misperceived racism anyway, using cultural bias and generalizations?  I don't think I even need to point out the glaring contradictions such a "moral stand" creates.

So I am against any member of any race spitting, while you say its okay for Puerto Ricans to do it.  Hmmmmmm.

My advise to you is to follow your own advice in terms of judging groups by pre-conceived notions, and to also enroll in a junior college so as to receive remedial help in understanding the English language.  That zero reputation tells me who will and won't be missed Spitter-lover.

League to Send a Message?

The Over/Under is currently at a 4 Game Suspension.    Do you take the over due to the league's bias towards wanting the Brewers to win the Division?  Or, do you take the under as you feel the league will want to avoid "race" accusations?  Do you take the over as the Umpire's Union is tired of this?   Or do you take the under as the Player's Union is much stronger?  Who has taken more steriods over their lifetime, Mark McGuire or Yadier Molina?  The beginning of the end just arived for St. Louis.  Too bad... So sad....  You had a great run, but it's time to trade and rebuild.

Molina bumps, spits on umpire

I like the intensity that Molina showed in arguing the pitch. He is one of the best catchers in the game  and sticks up for his team when it needs it the most.He did it last year to Brandon Phillips and last night in a division match up of 2 teams fighting for the division title. The cards have had injuries all year long and they still are in the hunt, and with all the injuries Molina has been the constant in this lineup.I think Molina is the Mvp of the team this year for just that reason. Go Cards

Yadier Molina should be banned from Baseball if, and only if, he uttered the following words:  "Do you know who I am?".  Otherwise, suspend him for a month.

brandon Phillips is a cocky showboat who is overrated.  The cards stick up for their players and play as a team.  We are intense and want to win every game, when they throw at Alberts face two games in a row Tony is going to throw at their best player for protection, it is smart.  If we lose Pujols we are done.  The cards play the game hard and right, which is why we continually fight for the division every year even when our ace is out for the season.  The reds and brewers think they are so good but they have not won anything in forever, they are delusional.  Hey brewers keep untucking your jerseys after a win, thats real classy, in the meantime the cars will keep winning divivsions and going to world series.   what a group of cocky showboats.
