Lincecum challenges fans to repeat delivery

By Evan Brunell

Imagine Tim Lincecum, nicknamed The Freak, hurling a 95-mph heater past you so fast, appearing on top of you with a massive stride and hearing the pop of the fastball hitting the mitt before you have time to react. Or a knee-buckling curveball sending you spinning like a top. A slider appearing at the perfect location to rap for a hit, but then disappearing... well, you're not sure where it disappears. Or how about a changeup following up the fastball, leaving you so far ahead of the pitch, your attempt to slow down and catch up to the ball just sends your limbs flying every which way as you struggle to maintain your balance.

Sound fun? Well, then you'll want to sign up for a video competition that Lincecum, the Giants ace, is putting on that asks fans to duplicate his delivery for a chance to face Lincecum in the batter's box at spring training in 2012. Entries are open as of Apug. 9 and runs through Sept. 16 and is being put on by Red Bull. There will be multiple rounds based on creativity, originality, performance, skill level and demonstrated passion for the sport and Lincecum. You may only submit one entry.

Before you think it's a piece of cake to mirror Lincecum's delivery, note that his delivery is most certainly not the vanilla, standard delivery so many pitchers use these days. No, sirree. This delivery , as you can see above in slow motion, includes a controlled leg kick past the hips, angling his back to the hitter with a long stride, his glove arm angling above his head, loading up the pitch from a 3/4 angle but which comes over the top thanks to his delivery that finishes with his back leg above his head.

Good luck. Enter the contest here.

Dude is def a K machine, but he's walking way too many batters this year. He's much too good a pitcher to be racking up the walks like he is this year.

Lincecum is on pace to walk almost 90 batters this year. Face him in spring training? Hell, just keep the bat on your shoulder and you'll  have a fifty/fifty chance of making it to first base!

I'm assuming that when they say "batter's box", they mean lava-lamp lit basement, and "chance to face Lincecum" really means hang out in said basement and do bong hits.

Who wants to bet that if Lincecum accidentally hits the winner, the winner will probably sue him.
