Stow improving; Attackers make damning statements

Sanchez, Norwood

By Evan Brunell

As the two men charged with assaulting Bryan Stow, a Giants fan who attended Opening Day at Dodger Stadium, pleaded not guilty in court on Wednesday, good news was revealed in Stow's progress.

Stow, who lost consciousness and suffered brain damage in the brutal attack, has been responding to commands and lifting his arms and legs, the family wrote on its website.

On Sunday, "we got the most response from Bry to date," the family wrote. "He lifted his left leg slightly when asked, he raised his left arm everytime we asked if we could hold his hand, and the best part? Bonnie [his sister] asked Bryan if she could have a kiss and every time she asked him, he puckered his lips. The final time when she was leaving, Bonnie asked again for a kiss. Bry turned his head towards her, puckered his lips for the kiss, then turned his head back. The nurse was shocked and excited to see that!"

Stow's recovery is still unclear, as doctors are trying to figure out just how much damage Stow has.

Meanwhile, the men charged with the assault, Louis Sanchez and Marvin Norwood, made incriminating statements, deputy district attorney Frank Santoro said.

"This is not an identification case. There are statements made by both defendants that will be used in the prosecution," Santoro said. "I would call them admissions."

Sanchez and Norwood are being held on $500,000 bail. Sanchez's sister, Dorene, is also involved in the case as she testified before a grand jury as an accessory to the crime, but she was not formally charged.

In court papers, prosecutors detailed the beating:

Prosecutors said in court papers that Stow tried to escape a violent man attacking him and his friends outside the stadium, but his assailant chased him down.

Prosecutors allege that Sanchez shoved Stow and punched one of Stow's friends after the opening day game. After the assault, Stow, who was dressed in a Giants shirt, continued to walk with his friends toward the edge of the stadium parking lot, with Sanchez and his friend, Marvin Norwood, in pursuit, prosecutors wrote.

Sanchez caught up with the group and punched another of Stow's friends, knocking him to the ground, the court document said. As Stow faced Norwood, Sanchez surprised him from behind and punched him in the side of the head, prosecutors allege.

Witnesses heard Stow's head hit the concrete and saw it bounce when he fell, prosecutors wrote. Sanchez then kicked the unconscious Stow and Norwood kicked him and standing over him yelled, "who else wants to fight." according to prosecutor Michele Hanisee in a court filing.

Stow improving; Attackers make damning statements

Y'all arguing about an experience in Baltimore, chill out.  As a previous poster noted, this article isn't about you.  It's good news that Stowe is showing movement.  Hope he makes a full recovery, and can identify his attackers.  They deserve much worse than a judge will probably give them.

That said, treatment of other team's fans is becoming a bigger problem in ALL cities.  Used to be that people picked on Philadelphia fans for throwing snowballs at a drunken Santa Claus.  Now it's gotten much worse everywhere.  And based on the violence that we see around the world at soccer games, it can get much worse than it is now.  I don't know the solution, but we need to treat each other with a bit more respect.  No need to attack someone just because they support a different team than you do.

We were civil, didn't open our mouths, barely drank just in case shit hit the fan...Baltimore fans are nasty towards Steeler fans. ALL OF THEM! Even old ladies and 5 year olds. It changed my opinion of that city forever. CLEVELAND was 100% better!
I find it hard to believe considering how you are so negative on here most of the times. Old Ladies? 5 Year old Kids?

I've had friends that have had similiar experiences in Pittsburgh.....so what's your point.

Did you ever stop to think that it may have been because you were acting in person the same way you act here via keyboard?

I had an experience down in Baltimore back in 2006 during a Steeler game. These fools may be idiots, but most of Baltimore are just the same way.

Vengence Filled Stow improving.

For the record; Steelwood and Wreckas, you two need to settle down. This isn't about you. Lose the erection. Chill out.

[I actually like Baltimore a lot, btw. Harbor area is really nice, DC is close... ... anyway... I digress.]

I hope to God Stow makes a recovery at least to the point of being able to ID these cockroaches. As for the sentence they receive, I have always leaned towards the good ol' eye-for-an-eye approach. I know it's not very popular here in the states, but it seems to me the message is better sent that way.
If I'm a dirtbag p-o-s thinking about beating up the other team's fan base and I know the worst I get is jail time, well maybe jail is better than my current situation anyway, so why not kick some a$$?
BUT, If I'm that same dirtbag p-o-s and I know that if I beat down a random fan (like they did Stow) they will put me in an arena with a couple of huge, relentless, angry, licensed professional a$$ kickers looking to knock my teeth out and put me in a coma... ? ... well, now thats a different story.
The idea here is hopefully they'll think twice, "Hmmm... Maybe I'll just go home instead".
C'mon Stow! We're pulling for you and your family! I hope you're a good guy.

They should tie cinder blocks to their feet an drop them in McCovey's Cove.  As far as I am concerned getting 20 years in a 4x8 just ain't enough (if they get it)

I know, 2 wrongs don't make a right.  But these two douche bags need to face a punishment that fits the crime.  Public stoning at AT&T park parking lot might work.  Foot in mouth

Oh no, I've gone to far.
