Giants broadcaster sounds off on team

The San Francisco Giants won the World Series last year for the first time in history (previous Giants titles were as the New York Giants). In 2011, many believed they'd at least win the NL West. Instead, they've suffered through some dreadful offense and several bad spells. The result is being only seven games over .500 and trailing the Diamondbacks by three games for first place.

It's certainly not a horrible situation, but winning it all seems to alter expectations a bit. Witness Giants TV color commentator Mike Krukow on a morning radio show in the Bay Area Friday. He went off on the team:

(All of the following quotes are from Brian Murphy -- the radio show host -- tweets. Some words have been written out from tweet short-hand)

"No offense, wasted opportunities, major frustration. Comes a point mix-ups don't work. Time for a shakeup."

"The need something to get their attention. They've made 24 more errors than last year. Tells you concentration is not there."

"How many Giants at-bats do you look forward to? Can't keep running (the) same guys out there. Dire times. Rattle their cage."

On Aubrey Huff: "He swung at a backfoot slider and missed by 10 inches. His at-bats had no life. (I am) not opposed to sitting him three, four days."

Distractions come from winning it all. The fans & community demands more of their time. Happened to the Phillies, Yankees and so on. Posey has been out all season for the most part, makes a difference to lose 1/2 the pitching battery and his 4-5 AB's every day for most of the season. Health becomes a big depth issue when the starting team has to get thru a season. Anyway, they played the Phillies tight, they know they can do that and that in and of itself is 1/2 way to a WS repeat. Some teams just match up better than others do against same opponents.

First major shakeup should be firing BAM BAM. We cant hit and besides for a hot streak last yr havent hit since BAM BAMs been the the hitting coach, make an example out of him, give the job to JT Snow or Will Clark both still work for the giants why not give it a try to end the season. And Second should be starting Sanchez at Catcher, yeah he might be a little rusty with the staff but he can hit, plus itll show we have another catcher who can lead the team and that would allow them to put him or posey at firstbase.   I also suggest that they go HARDCORE after PRINCE or ALBERT, dont bother sighing Ross or Beltran. Also forsee the giants letting Zito go after this year i dont think hell be a giant same with Sanchez,

As we all now, it's easier to get to the top than to stay there. The giants got to the top last year with great pitching and good and timely hitting from guys that really you wouldn't expect that from. They also had some good luck go there way! The giants got to the WS and WON it. How many teams get there and do not win it? Lots and lots. But the giants trying to win it again the same they way they won it last year is probably not gonna happen, The players that came thru last year with the bat are not doing it this year. Come on, it was bound to happen. It's not like these guys are superstars. Aside from the pitching, the rest of this team is mostly above average players that put it together last year. And on top of that the giants traded for beltran, a good player, but they gave up a future starter. They way overpaid for beltran. The giants need there minor league pitching in place to replace what the have when they leave via FA. There's NO way the giants will be able to outbid NY, Boston, LA for their SP's.

The Giants are going to have trouble re-signing their starting pitchers once their contracts expire. Who wants to pitch for a team where the offense can't put up some runs for them? There's only somany 2-1 or 1-0 losses one can take...

As for Mr. Zito, I understand that his contract makes him untradeable, but they can't keep running him out there only to get shelled and lose games, so I suggest that they find other jobs for him. Maybe they can have him sell cotton candy in the stands, or perhaps he can wear the Lou Seal costume...

As a fan I am disapointed, Mike is right time for shake up.  The Giants fans have lived in the past two long.  You cannot win games with the press clippings from last year.  Sosa looked real very good agains the Giants and the player the Giants traided.  Simple base ball. See the ball, hit the ball. (esp when some one is on 2nd).  Huff and Cody last years heroes seem miss key opts.  If the bases are loaded and they come up I go to get a hot-dog.  The Giant pictures are working so hard but to give up one run and loose is not fair.

Hey scotsbay, you are...absolutely correct.  The Giants had momentum and looked to defend a world championship.  Now we have pitchers blowing it late in the game and the hitting is awful.  How about the owner step in and tell someone to get it together.  You forgot that Belt is doing well too.  Totally agree that Rowand needs to go.  While we are at it, can not see Zito anymore in a Giants uniform please.  Wake SF, Arizona is hot right now and there isn't much left of the season.  The ballpark is nice to watch a game in but I ain't paying for what is going on right now.

I agree 100% with Krukow ! Botchy keeps throwing out the same players and states, we need to hit better after every post game.Got news for you Botchy, if you dont get some different guys in the lineup , nothing is going to change , could be out of the race in a few weeks Bring up some minor league players, this team needs a wake up call. We have pill in the minors, we have brown who is red hot and the catcher sanchez that was called up recently ogt a big hit for us. Its time for derosa, fonenot and rowand to go, they are wasted roster sopts. Also need ti sit huff, he doesnt look like he has a clue anymore, also cant have ross play every day, he is just to up and down with the bat. I see Torres is coming back sunday, I hope Bochy gets him back in the lead off spot, need his speed, if he cant do it call up Brown. Ross and Cabrera leading off is a joke.  Call uup these young guys see what they can do, cant get any worse.
