The Milwaukee Brewers are division champions. We have only been able to say that one other year in history: 1982. It was in the AL East, too. This time around, the Brewers are the champions of the National League Central. They clinched the title Friday night with a pair of three-run home runs, only one was hit by the Cubs. Ryan Braun broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth with a three-run shot in an eventual 4-1 Brewers win over the Marlins. It knocked the magic number down to one, meaning a Cardinals loss would clinch the division for Milwaukee. A few minutes after Braun's shot, Cubs' left fielder Alfonso Soriano hit a three-run, eighth-inning home run of his own to put the Cardinals behind 4-1. The Cubs closed it down, 5-1, clinching the division for their neighbors to the north.

These Brewers aren't strangers to the postseason, as they were the wild card in 2008. Still, this team is a bit different, namely the starting pitching. That '08 squad was carried in the second half by CC Sabathia. This group has a trio of studs at the top in Zack Greinke, Yovani Gallardo and Shaun Marcum. In the middle of the order, though, it's still the 1-2 punch of MVP candidates in Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder.

The '82 Brewers won 95 games and went to the World Series. These Brewers are currently 92-65 and have some work to do in the playoffs. Still, there's a shot at being the best team in franchise history and making history -- if they get late into October.

But that's far in the future. For now, the Brewers can celebrate their division title and start thinking about the NLDS.

Brewers clinch first division title since 1982

Zack Greinke has been unbelievable at home but a shamble on the road.  Have him pitch at home and that game can almost be counted on as a win.  Gallardo and Marcum will fill out the rotation well and the bullpen (as long as K-Rod accepts his role and pitches!) will put in work.  When Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder get hot this offense can put up big numbers as well.  This team hasn't gotten much respect in the media but I think that with a few things going their way they can make some noise all the way to the World Series.

The Brewers will represent the NL Central this year and I think they will do a good job of it. Good luck Brew Crew.
