White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has managed his last game for the White Sox. The White Sox have released Guillen from his contract -- which ran through 2012 -- but retain rights to his compensation. They announced the move after the White Sox beat the Blue Jays on Monday night. Prior to the game, Guillen had met with owner Jerry Reinsdorf for a half-hour, with Guillen saying he wanted to return but would only do so with a contract extension.

Guillen has long been rumored to be on the wish list of the Florida Marlins, especially now as they look for a fresh start heading into a new stadium for 2012. Earlier Monday night, Guillen had a colorful session with media before the White Sox hosted the Blue Jays. Now, a rumor has surfaced that Guillen is headed to the Marlins. Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting the White Sox are in talks with the Marlins to send Guillen to Miami -- citing "multiple sources." Nothing official has happened yet, though.

The Marlins have a managerial vacancy as Jack McKeon is retiring at the conclusion of this season.

Guillen Leaves White Sox
While very rare, it's not without precedent for a player to be traded for a manager, albeit unofficially. Tampa Bay sent outfielder Randy Winn to the Mariners for little return in 2002, but manager Lou Piniella went back to the then-Devil Rays as compensation. Last offseason, the big rumor was that the White Sox sought promising young outfielder Logan Morrison in return for Guillen, but the Marlins wouldn't cough up that much. Under the current circumstances, it's very doubtful the White Sox could get anything even close to a player of Morrison's caliber.

The Marlins are ready to make a big splash this coming offseason in anticipation of changing their name to the Miami Marlins, getting a new logo and moving into a new home. One report indicated they plan a huge movement in free agency, with increasing the payroll to close to $100 million a possibility.

Bringing in a manager with Guillen's pedigree would only increase the excitement in Miami.

The White Sox hold the rights to Guillen's compensation? What exactly does that mean? The White Sox can trade the right to pay Guillen like they can trade the right to negotiate with a draft pick? Also..it seems that the Marlins are always looking for a fresh start every season. Changing their name from Florida to Miami reeks of desperation. It did not work for Arte Moreon and the Angels (formerly of California, but is now known as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim...or something like that).

How about changing their name to the Biscayne Marlins. That way the wealthy residents of that Florida neighborhood can support the team by showing up at games and bringing more fans in the process and helping to chip in to pay for a larger payroll. It's a great idea....that will happen in pro sports. You have heard of communities getting together to keep a little league or youth sports team from folding....why not take it to a "whole nother level"? And support incompetent billionaires (owners) and crybaby millionaires (players)?

Never saw a manager that checked the "chicks" out during a game more than Ozzie. Now he can do it in Florida.

Marlins are opening a pimp ballpark, supposedly going to pay for some top players, then you hire Guillen?  Gotta be some better options.  On the bright side half the TV viewers might finally understand what he's ranting about.

This by no means is a real story in Chicago.  Considering this has been talked about since the start of the seasonI would hardly call it a shocker.  The Ozzie and Kenny battle was the straw and with Daddy Jerry not taking sides Ozzie decided to burn his own bridge.  1 hour before gametime tonight the story was out.  Ozzie met with Jerry Reinsdor and pleaded his case for a contract extension basically telling Jerry if you don't extend me I'm gone.  Ozzie brought the prize here to Chicago and he has that.  For the people who say he can't coach they are not baseball educated.  You might not like his approach or general attitude but that's what separates leaders and followers.  He has followers and players will back him.  He will go to Marlins and they will contend and I'm a betting man so the Whitesox have a .500 season next year and Whitesox fans will still be complaining about Ozzie.  Chicago Sox fans and Ozzie are like the 3rd grade girl (sox fans) punching a boy (ozzie) in the school yard.  That story ends with the boy finding another girl and taking his talents to South Beach.

RYNE SANDBERG is CHICAGO..23 The cubs were dumb enough not to make him their manager instead they opted for Mike Quade? What has Ryno done while coaching in the minors for the Cubs and Phillies. Who wouldn't want to play for Ryno as their manager?

We all saw this happening and good luck Ozzie.  You will be missed in the A.L. central.  I always liked the way you would wave to Ron Gardenhire before the start of a Twins game.  I always liked how you speak your mind in a "PG 13" kinda way and always stuck up for your players.  Good luck in Fla. I'm sure you are just what the "old folks" in Florida are gonna love.

Of all the managers that Miami could get and they decide to bring in a devisive, obnoxious jerk that has little to no ability to team build.  This especially bad when the team is going to look so different with a good corp of young players and an influx of free agents.

A Kirk Gibson type personality would be soooo much better for this fresh start.

Good riddance.  Ozzie's a jerk.  His team quit on him.  His strategy was misplaced.  This is the AL not the NL.  It's time.  Oh now for a good hire. Hope to never hear from you.
