Francona wants to manage in 2012

Terry Francona hopes to manage next season, according to a report from ESPN's Buster Olney.

Francona's contract was picked up by the Red Sox late last week. We looked at possible landing spots for Francona on Friday, noting that if he wants to manage in 2012, he'll certainly have a chance.

Olney also reported Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin will be one of the people interviewed to replace Francona in Boston. Mackanin was also on our list of possible replacements. One name that wasn't on our list was Torey Lovullo, the Pawtucket Red Sox manager in 2010 who went with John Farrell to Toronto. Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman tweeted that Lovullo would be considered, while he writes that Bobby Valentine and Joe Torre are not candidates.

Francona wants to manage in 2012

Anyone could see Boston had a serious problem and it was their pitching staff
DiceK return to Japan and no more was said about him.
It was almost like , good riddence to bad  baggages.
This was a bad signingffrom day one.
Just imagine if an American Pitcher asked for what he got.
The Crawford signing was a repeat of the Dice K deal
Clearly not enough research into Crawford.
Leting Beltre walk to Texas was another blunder,
Here was a guy who played and wanted to win.
Wakefield was clearly  in over his head
And it was obvious he didn't have the same stuff he used to have
There reluctence to call up minor league pitchers.
and this manager just coasted through the final month,
no temper tantrums and getting tossed out of games
He did nothing to try and motivate this team
as they entered September a beaten team and everyone could see it.
No doghouse for anyone no benching slumping stars
He did nothing to try and reinstall some vigor into this team
If I was the Red Sox manager I'd go hide as he should be ashamed of this collaspe.
As this team just quit in September.
and team with these players could of at least split the remAINING Games
PLUS THE gm DID NOTHING to help in the pitching department at midseason
He should of gone out and got 2 starters by ther end of July.
This looked like a complete collaspe by the whole Red Sox organization.
but letting their sparkplug walk (Beltre) was a crippling deasth blow to this team.

Nice to know the uneducated are at least smart enough to post on a website. I hope you have not learned how to reproduce yet.

Francona wants to manage in 2012

Terry Francona won two World Series as manager of The Boston Red Sox.  A Team that didn't win in a World Series since 1918!  As a lifelong Red Sox fan I only want to say that Red Sox fans should be very, very Thankful that they got to see The Sox win not one but two World Series under his managerial career in Boston.  I'm sick of the "what have you done for me lately attitudes from I read from FANS online.  I have alot of friends and contacts that are Red Sox Fans.  Not one blames Tery Francona for what happened in September 2011.  NOT ONE!  It's good to bitch and complain!  It let's us save the $20 fee to the shrinks.  I have "to believe" that most of what I read on line about the opinions of Terry Francona are written by Red Sox Fans that jumped on the bandwagon in 2004.  Meaning that these fans aren't true fans.  How do you grow up as a little kid and hope through your youth and adulthood that The Red Sox will win A World Series?  Every middle aged and retired fan that I know waited for so long for The Redsox to win a World Series and They did in 2004.  Some of these fans got to see The Red Sox win again in 2007.  We waited and waited and it finally happened - The Red Sox won The World Series - then they won another World Series - with Terry Francona as The Manager!  Now, a humble Terry Francona states that he would like to manage next season!  Are you kidding me?  He should be able to pick the team that he wants to manage.

Francona wants to manage in 2012

The Red Sox have had a GREAT pitching staff for YEARS, what happened this year? Off the top of my head, I can think of: Buccholz got hurt, Wakefield got old, Lackey was a waste and was supposed to the great pitcher they added in a trade. Basically, they had Beckett & Lester, and Beckett had one of his "on" years. Who wants a guy who has an on/off/on/off years all the time, btw? So basically they have one solid pitcher: Lester. The Red Sox did a BAD job beefing up their pitching staff to go along with that offense. Bedard was a BAD trade. You want a solid guy who doesn't get hurt when you're in the Red Sox' position. Not a HUGE RISK. That was a stupid trade. They would've been better off getting some bargain guy veteran like RA Dickey who doesn't get hurt. That was just an example.

Do red sox fans remember what it was like before Theo and Tito? I would say no based on the comments. The hate that people have for these guys blows my mind. Tito was a genius for years according to red sox nation and that city. All of a sudden he becomes stupid basically overnight and all he does is chew gum? Red sox fans would be in the same position as us cubs fans if not for those two. Did he make questionable moves? Sure, what manager doesn't. I would argue that with the injuries they had and the division they are in, he did a decent job. Name me a red sox manager that was as successful over as long a period. Name me another manager that has 2 series rings in the past 8 years. Name me another manager that has to put up with the bs from his own city even when they are winning like he does ( and yes Boston is THE most harsh city on sports). Now name me another manager that can come in there and command respect from the likes of Ortiz, pedroia, youk, and papelbon. That's what I paused after every one of those questions and had to think hard. No go ahead and post your rants about how everything is bs and you know best. Just had to think pretty hard about those answers.

The Red Sox have always had a lot of money to spend, the only difference is Theo helped win 2 championships in 4 years as opposed to the goose egg Beantown put up in the previous 80 plus years.  Crawford and Gonzalez will prove to be excellent signings and if a bad signing or two was the litmus test for baseball GM's nobody would have a job.  P.S. I am a Yankee fan.  What is it about Boston and that city's angst and inferiority complex?  You finally had a successful front office and skipper and now you want to blow it up because of 2 years not making the playoffs in the toughest division in baseball?  Don't get me wrong, as a Yankee fan I am thrilled by this stupidity.  The Yankees have a quick hook for GM's and Managers too, but they also have a much different pedigree.  However, even by the standard of the Yankees' expectations, running Tito (and it appears Theo is not too far behind) based on the most recent Red Sox debacle is clearly a visceral as opposed to a rational decision.

Francona wants to manage in 2012

You have got to be kidding me!!!  Obviously you didn't follow the Red Sox all season and see the dumb moves Tito made.  Not to mention that he doesn't know how to handle pitchers......unless and until they allow 6 runs in a crucial game will he go to his bullpen.  Witness the many, many starts he gave Wakefield just to get his 200th win.  This was a playoff race, not a popularity contest.  Francona is a nice guy, I'm sure.....a players manager, but he doesn't get on his players for being slackers.  Don't know how many times you have seen Ortiz barely run out a ground ball.  The whole team was out of shape, and Tito didn't care....just chewing his bubble gum like it was the last on earth.  I wish him the best, but glad he has left here.

Washington might be a place with the possibilities they got as a young club, but just as volatile as they are talented

Francona wants to manage in 2012

I wish Baltimore would pick him up, I'm tired of losing all the time. We need to get back to being at least a contender, being a pretender is getting old. We have not done crap since Cal and Mike M. left.
