Terry Francona hopes to manage next season, according to a report from ESPN's Buster Olney.

Francona's contract was picked up by the Red Sox late last week. We looked at possible landing spots for Francona on Friday, noting that if he wants to manage in 2012, he'll certainly have a chance.

Olney also reported Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin will be one of the people interviewed to replace Francona in Boston. Mackanin was also on our list of possible replacements. One name that wasn't on our list was Torey Lovullo, the Pawtucket Red Sox manager in 2010 who went with John Farrell to Toronto. Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman tweeted that Lovullo would be considered, while he writes that Bobby Valentine and Joe Torre are not candidates.

You sir truly have no idea what you are talking about.  You show me one team that does not have an active player on it that is not suspected of using roids?  if you think the sox rings are tainted what does that say about the 27 the Yanks have.  half of there teams has or is under suspect of roid use.

Francona wants to manage in 2012

Haven't heard a peep about Ryne Sandberg as a candidate. Looks to be a good fit - was a solid hard-nosed pro, made large money and handled it well, great practicle joker so good in clubhouse and has minor league managing success with Peoria. Could be a classic in the making....2 ex-Cubs - Girardi and Sandberg facing off every year in the AL east.

Like I posted in another column response, watch Francona and Epstein both wind up on the northside of Chicago. Why did Epstein let Francona go. So he could hire him when he takes over as Cubs GM. Hard to hire a man when his managing a team. Good luck in Chicago Terry and Theo.

I'd say the chances of a Chicago guy, with a couple of World Series rings and one broken "curse" on his resume, of NOT getting a job offer from one of TWO Chicago teams without a manager, are mighty close to ZERO.

That's a prediction about as bold and "visionary"as most of these self titled "experts" ever give.

Who manages in Boston, is less relevant to Boston's success than who the GM is, and for now, it's Theo Epstein. The only logical other destination that fits Epstein's resume as a "Director of Spending" is with the Cubs... or Yankees, if fellow self-entitled, signer of overpaid free agent hitters and forgetter of pitching Brian Cashman, beats him to the job.

Francona wants to manage in 2012

It just goes to show that when steroids are taken out of the picture in beantown, winning is markedly tougher to do.  As far as I'm concerned, Francona did nothing as a manager of the bosox.  The only guys on the Red Sox that I remotely respect are Adrian Gonzalez and Jacoby Ellsbuury because they are soft-spoken and kick ass every night out.  I would not be surprised if next season, Boston fares even worse than this one.

Boston but he still won where no one had won in 86 years and that says something.

Boston wins are tainted........*2004 and *2007 will always go down as tainted.....Roitiz and Roidmirez (The two biggest reason the Red Sox won) are users.......Last legit Champiosnhip for the Sox? 1918........Enjoy
