Theo Epstein, the outgoing Red Sox GM, took out a full-page ad in the Boston Globe to thank the Red Sox and its fans for his 10 years in town.

After nine seasons as GM, Epstein is moving on to take over the Cubs job, becoming president and luring former assistant Jed Hoyer from his GM job in San Diego to fill the same position in Chicago. You can read more about the Theo-to-Cubs madness here. Despite leaving, Epstein's reputation hasn't suffered in Boston as many have come out with favorable reviews for his time in Boston. He doesn't appear to be getting much flak for leaving, especially after Boston's 7-20 September dropped them out of the playoffs and sparked a firestorm largely centered around pitchers drinking beer during games.

Below is Epstein's advertisement, as seen on the Boston Globe:

Theo wanted to leave boston fans like this? no way! dont blame him, blame your ownership and players.
In my opinion the main reason Theo left for the Cubs that he will be President of the Cubs, I don't think that Theo would left if he was just going to be the GM.

You have expect that some Red Sox fans are going upset and bitter that Theo is leaving, I think that the Red Sox will do just fine without Theo. As long Red Sox farm system is doing good

Very classy.  Most individuals would just leave their post and go on their merry way.  Not always the easiest forms of media to show your graditude and respect of the past 10 years, but it made it here and the rest of the internet so he did what was needed.  Best of luck in Chi-Town, even though Sox Nation doesn't want to see you go.

And most of us from Red Sox Nation thank Theo Epstein for his 10 years of service and how he both improved our minor league system and helped us win 2 championships in 10 year after 80 plus years without a single championship. We wish you the best in Chicago and hope you turn them around like you did the Red Sox.

I myself understand wanting a new challenge. I can't stay in a place where there isn't any challenge left. If I did all I could in one place and someone offered me a new challenge somewhere else, I'd prolly take the new challenge too.

People also need to realize they are part of the reason Theo left. Who wants to be part of a team where you're not wanted and you're blamed for everything that went wrong? It's not Theo who isn't showing loyalty to the Red Sox, it's the Red Sox and some of their fans not showing loyalty.

You can't only like someone when things are going well, then hate them when things aren't and then expect loyalty from them. No one is gonna be happy if their boss is praising them one moment then telling the world how there are some issues that need to be addresed knowing the boss is indirectly speaking about you.

So these select Red Sox fans need to get a life and stop letting sports run their life. Sports is only part of life, it's not life itself. If it is to you, then I feel sorry for you that you have nothing else but sports to keep you going every day of your meaningless life.
