ST. LOUIS -- Game 6 of the World Series has been postponed due to expected inclement weather. It will now be scheduled for Thusrday night at 7:05 p.m. CT. Click here to read the Eye on Baseball Game 6 preview.

Having lived my whole life in the Midwest, I can tell you that drastic shifts in weather within a 24-hour period are pretty common, especially in the spring and fall. Unfortunately, the city of St. Louis has seen a drastic turn for the worse just in time to interfere with Game 6. Here's a picture from the field Tuesday afternoon:

And roughly 24 hours later ...

It was just bad timing.

Game 6 postponed until Thursday

At least MLB is learning - anyone remember 2008 when the Phillies and Rays had to have game 5 suspended?  What a mess!  MLB probably sees a break Thurs. - this way no SP are wasted (and no complaining).  In 2008, the Phils best pitcher and game 5 WP  - Hamels - didn't throw a pitch the day he won the game!  It probably doesn't hurt MLB to get ratings  Thurs. and Fri. for a possible game 7.  And lastly, the fams  won't have to pay twice for parking!

Game 6 postponed until Thursday

To me, it's not as much of the pitching as it is of these people practicing what they preach. If it's raining or going to rain, you don't take the tarp off the field so you can practice. They have undergound cages for that.

I just don't see it matching up.

CARDS WIN IN 7..... Check the stats when a team goes down 3-2 in the world series..... GO CARDS!
Ummm...maybe you should recheck the stats.  The team up 3-2 more often than not, by a wide margin, wins the series.  Not saying the Cards can't win, and as a Missouri native I am pulling for them, but winning 2 in a row, even at home is a tall order.  Maybe too tall.

Don't let the picture fool you... They just took the tarp off the field (just look at MLB Network for proof), and now they're about to take batting practice. Oh, but it's too wet to play a game!! St. Louis has their fingerprints all over this decision.

Contrary to what you think, the Cardinals do not control this decision.  They may have been in favor of it, but the decision on whether or not to cancel tonight's game was made by MLB and I can think of no plausible reason why MLB would intentionally try to favor Stl with that decision over what Texas wants (not that I have heard Rangers managment criticizing the decision either).  Fact is, it may not be raining in Stl at this moment, but the rains are moving in, and it most likely will be raining by game time (I'm in Springfield, 3.5 hours from Stl, it wasn't rainng here a couple hours ago either, but it is now).  At least least this way Texas and St. Louis do not waste their game 6 starters if the game were started and then delayed or postponed later -- even if it might get Carpenter an extra day of rest if the series goes to game 7---of course, the Rangers' pitchers get that same rest--moral of the story is take care of business in game 6 and the Rangers don't have to worry about Carpenter in game 7.

Game 6 postponed until Thursday

That just means they are due. And the Cards are the team to do it.

As far as postponing goes. Well it does bennefit the Cards to have the ace back on 3 days but the Rangers will have Holland who was amazing the other night at full rest.

As someone who lives in the STL Metro and I have for only 3 years I do have to say they are predicting and keep showing the weather radar on TV that the storm is brewing and will likely be here at or around game time. I'm a claims adjuster and I watch the weather around here allot because it brings me work and this is definately likely to disrupt the game anyway.

I have seen games played during these type of weather events because the storm will likely only last and hour or so but it's tough to expect good baseball, fan support when the weather is bad or dangerous. Let's not forget a Tornado hit about 5 miles or less from Busch Stadium New Years Eve and another massive Tornado did serious damage to the airport and surrounding areas on Easter weekend. Another pretty serious storm when near the stadium and the sirens went off this summer sending fans to huddle in the bathrooms togeather.

Safety and numbers are more important considering the cost and magnitude of the game.

I don't even like baseball but it's hard not to when you are a sports fan and this is going on.

Go Cards

Game 6 postponed until Thursday

I did check the stats when a team goes down 3-2, the team with a 3-2 lead has gone on to win the series 61 time to 41 times for the team down. GO RANGERS!!!!

Game 6 postponed until Thursday

I hate it that baseball is the one major sport where games can be delayed/postponed/cancelled due to weather.  When an NFL game is scheduled, it is pretty much guaranteed that the game will be played and will start on time, and I can plan around it.

There have been several postponements this postseason already, and there was a ton in this year's regular season.  The phillies towards the end of the season had to play 32 games in 30 days.  I remember Game 5 of the 2008 world series was suspended as well The world series that year, theoretically, could have ended in a shortened game due to rainout, but they played in horrible conditions and waited for the Rays to tie the game so they could resume play the next day.
