Considering I was on the road for the World Series and paying attention only to baseball for the past two weeks, I seemed to miss out on the whole "Tebowing" thing.

Evidently it's either a way to honor or mock Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow. Sure enough, baseball's top prospect -- Bryce Harper of the Nationals' system -- decided to get in on the action.

The picture here is actually Harper's current Twitter avatar (@BHarper3407 for those interested).

It's interesting in the light that both Harper and Tebow seem to elicit strong emotions from fans of each respective sport. There's really no gray area for most, as you either love or hate either player with a passion.

I'am getting so tired of hearing tebowing this and tebowing that.  I can't even watch the in game comment board anymore because its turned into the chuck norris jokes except with tebow instead.  Somebody stop the insanity!Yell

Bryce Harper goes 'Tebowing'

the first ever likely-genuine athlete of his stature
Wasn't Reggie White an ordained minister? People aren't mocking Tebow because of his faith. They are mocking his fans that believe he cannot fail because of his faith.

I think faith is entirely worth mocking, but I don't understand mocking a guy like Tim Tebow. While I don't agree with his religious beliefs, the fact is that all the guy does is to bring good to people around him. He is charitable, giving and tries to compete with all of his abilities at the very highest level.
Let's save our contempt for the people who prey on peoples' faith to extort money, create jealousy, bigotry and hate. Theres certainly enough of them out there!
I really don't get it. Tebow is one of the good guys. Outside of all the good things he does for people, he's not throwing religion in your face like baseball players that cross themselves, or like Kurt Warner tried to act like God was on his team, or Webb Simpson saying that he felt Jesus out on the golf course with him. Those are the delusional ones that I can't stomach.
Faith, or lack of it, should be a private mattter. If it motivates you to do good things, then Im all for people wanting to believe in it. Unfortunately, it gets such a bad name because history has shown us that religion has mostly been sued to gain control, money, influence and spawn hate. Don't hang that on one guy. People say that he doesnt deserve to the QB in Denver. Hey, do you see anyone else there that looks like a keeper? I sure don't.

people seem to be looking at him as though he's some sort of alien whose every move could be worth studying

xris, people look at him like this because this is what he is. He is probably the first ever likely-genuine athlete of his stature who thinks and acts the way he does.

I feel like this has to be an homage, because Harper comes from a religious upbringing also. Seems like he wouldn't mock faith. Unless he truly has gone off the deep end.

Way to show your maturity there Harper. It surprises me that there has been this much made out of Tebow's actions. The man is a christian, and people seem to be looking at him as though he's some sort of alien whose every move could be worth studying. Give it up everybody.
Well it all started with this "planking" BS... that I really don't understand in the first place.
