Yankees plan to talk to C.J. Wilson

In a very thin crop of free agent pitchers, C.J. Wilson is the best of the bunch. And while the high-spending Yankees did have the best record in the American League, the last few spots of their rotation would appear to be a weakness moving forward (yes, the offense is aging and will likely regress a bit, but those guys are all locked in contractually). So it's not much of a surprise that the Yankees have Wilson on their radar.

“We haven’t talked to him yet, but we will,” said general manager Brian Cashman (New York Post). “[The Rangers] have won a lot and he’s been a big part of that, so we’ll certainly talk to him.”

And here's the thing worth noting: If the Yankees decide they definitely want Wilson, they'll surely get him. They can outpay anyone (unless the Nationals really wanna get crazy) and Wilson doesn't seem married to any particular destination. Being left-handed also makes him a great fit in Yankee Stadium.

Wilson, 30, was 16-7 with a 2.94 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 206 strikeouts in 223 1/3 innings during the 2011 regular season, making his first All-Star team. He did have a poor postseason showing, but Cashman told the Post he's not worried about that.

Yankees plan to talk to C.J. Wilson

I hope this is just a ploy to keep his salary high. I want Yu Darvish for the Yanks. I wouldn't mind Wilson as a back up to Darvish because as a relief pitcher for most of his career his arm doesn't have too much mileage but I think Darvish is going to be special.

As opposed to the 1 WS win for the Tigers in over 40 years?! I love how you cleverly go back just 11 years for your statistics. Of course if you had gone back, say, 14 years then you'd have to give the Yankees and Cashman credit for 4 WS titles in that span.

Of course they Yanks will take a look at Wilson, but does that mean they will go after him?
No, but a lot of people think that talking to him is the same as going after him. Silly.

Yankees plan to talk to C.J. Wilson

Wilson has two full years as a major league starter under his belt. Stay away from him
Cashman already has the blank check ready to sign Wilson to 25 year 500 million dollar contract.  Then when he tanks in the playoffs, the Yankees faithful can tell everyone about the 27 championships they have won.

It is rinse and repeat for NY -- 1 World Series in 11 years while spending well over 2 billion dollars on payroll is an absolute disgrace.  I swear Cashman MUST be holding something over on the Yankees upper brass.  How in god's green earth do you get a 3 year extension with that kind of output????

Yankees plan to talk to C.J. Wilson

I'm shocked to learn the Yankees are in talks with CJ Wilson -- they could line him up into the same category as the other 9 or 10 pitching busts that Cashman has brought aboard.  LOL

Talk about the job of lifetime -- you get an open checkbook, have won 1 World Series in what, 11 years, and you get a 3 year extension.  Thank god someone in the Yankee organization likes Cashman.  If they had a real GM, they would be unstoppable.

As it stands right now -- a trained Chimp could put a team together to get to the playoffs every year if you give him 200 million a year to put a team together.

Yankees plan to talk to C.J. Wilson

I know the Yankees need pitching but dont think Wilson is the answer, he proved again he cant win in the big games. As a Giant fan i would like to see the giants trade Sanchez to the Yankees for something, maybe if we cant sgn Cain try to trade to to NY for something worth while or figure out a 3 way deal so we get something of worth in a trade

You think they would of learned their lesson signing 32 yr old pitchers as free agents after Pavano and Burnett, but feel free to jump into the frying pan again. I already know how it's gonna end. Badly

It's OK if he'll be the 3rd or 4th starter,  but he'd be a very highly paid 3/4.
