Buehrle popular on free agent market

By Matt Snyder

Starting pitcher Mark Buehrle has pitched 12 seasons for the White Sox, but he may be heading to a new address in free agency this offseason. And there's no shortage of suitors. Multiple outlets have reported that Buehrle is meeting with the Marlins Tuesday, but they aren't alone in their pursuit. According to Fox Sports, the Rangers, Red Sox and Yankees all have interest in Buehrle, while the Blue Jays are looking for starting pitching as well. The report didn't specifically say the Jays were among the Buehrle suitors, but if they need pitching they'll surely at least kick the tires.

The Yankees would greatly benefit from adding Buehrle behind CC Sabathia, and lefties fare better in Yankee Stadium. The Marlins need pitching depth and are looking to make a strong push in free agency with a new ballpark set to open. Plus, Ozzie Guillen had previously managed Buehrle in Chicago and he's now the Marlins' skipper. The Rangers likely have Buehrle in their sights in case C.J. Wilson signs elsewhere and the Red Sox, well, we know how badly they need better pitching.

Hot Stove Season
The interest in Buehrle makes sense. Not only is he a left-hander, but he's as durable as they come. He's made at least 30 starts and thrown at least 201 innings in each of the past 11 seasons. Because he doesn't rely on velocity, Buehrle's skills shouldn't deteriorate much as he ages, either. The four-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glover isn't an ace, but he'd be a strong two or three in most rotations. And while it seems like he's old since he's been around for so long, Buehrle's only 32.

We've previously passed along that Buehrle is open to any team, and it looks like he'll have plenty of choices.

Buehrle popular on free agent market

So once again an average pitcher is going to make a ton of money on the open market. Granted Buehrle is decent but is he really worth themoney that he's going to get? Same with C.J. Wilson, decent but what 15-16 million a year.
If Papelbon gets 12 million how much is a starter going  to command?

Buehrle popular on free agent market

really??? was of his better years check his war out for this past year. his era was 3.59 which is is a lot lower than his career era of 3.80. his whip was as low as its been the last 10 years. one of the best fielding pitchers in the game 3rd straight gold glove and third straight fielding bible award. 17 straight games with 3 runs or less allowed by mark this year. he lost 3 games this year 1-0, and a no decision aganst the mariners of 8 innings 0-0 game. i am wondering if you even know who mark buehrle is and even follow the last 11 years of whitesox baseball? i mean this is the worst post i have ever read by a so called sox fan..... wth i hope we let him go bull shit your lucky and i will be so happy if he wants to come back to a team who cant contend cause the general manager wastes money on the wrong players and tried to low ball the man mark buehrle with 2 years 25 million when he stated he wanted 3 years. way to show how important you think mark is kenny. please stop posting

Buehrle popular on free agent market

One of the few free agents I would like to see the Jays over pay to get. He would be a great veteren presence in the rotation.

Do these writers who are getting paid ever get anyone to proof read their work?

As for Buerhle, I believe that he is easily more solid than C.J. Wilson. With Buerhle, you know exactly what to expect. Mark Buerhle's already solid numbers with the White Sox could become instantly better if he goes to a team with a park that is less hitter friendly than U.S. Cellular Field.

Yankee Stadium  is a godsend for a talented leftie.  add the run support he would receive and it certainly looks like the obvious choice IF he can deal with the New york pressure
