If Posada plays, won't be with Yankees

Jorge Posada knows his time with the Yankees is done.

"I don’t think there’s even a percentage of a chance that I can come back," Posada told the New York Daily News. "There’s nothing I could control. Everything happened for a reason. I’m not bitter at the Yankees. I’m not bitter at Brian Cashman."

It was never expected that Posada would return to New York. Not after a brutal season saw him stumble to a .235/.315/.398 line in 397 at-bats, easily his worst season as a Yankee. The 40-year-old is not considered by the Yankees anymore to be a viable catcher, and they won't want to carry a backup DH who struggled to hit, even if he showed promising numbers against right-handed batters.

Posada, who has yet to decide if he is even playing next season, feels he could land somewhere as a backup catcher and DH, the New Jersey Star-Ledger writes. His best role might be in the NL, where he can back up catcher, first and be a pinch-hitter against right-handed pitchers. If Posada wants to play again next year, odds are he'll find a place as long as he's willing to play for minimal dollars. However, he sounds as if he may be done, adding in the interview that he would always be a Yankee.

Let it go Jorge.  You've had a Hall of Fame career, don't do anything to tarnish that.  The future is in coaching and we all know how badly good coaches are needed these days.  Take a few years to enjoy the family and then I'm sure you'll have no problem getting another job in baseball.  You're a role model to many of us and a very generous human being - don't cheat yourself.  Thank you for all of the great years of service, championships and memories.  You are a Yankee Great and you should not be ashamed to hang'em up.

If Posada plays, won't be with Yankees

I am by no means a Yankees fan, but I grew up in the era of Posada, Jeter, Bernie Wlliams so it's always hard to see these guys go. I hope he retires this offseason and goes out a Yankee. That's the way he's always been, and always should be.

even if he showed promising numbers against right-handed pitchers.

Jorge Posada is a hitter. Which means he will face pitchers. What is up with all of these typos that these writers get paid good money to correct, or at least have someone edit or proofread.

As for Jorge Posada, there isn't really a future for him as a player anymore. It would be great for the Yankees to bring back Posada in a coaching role to mention some of the younger catching prospects such as Gary Sanchez, Austin Romine, and Jesus Montero since catchers are the best depth position in the Yankees system.
