RamosBy Evan Brunell

Despite recently being abducted by kidnappers and safely rescued by police this past week, Wilson Ramos intends to suit up for a Venezuelan baseball team on Wednesday, MASN writes.

Citing a tweet from Ramos' PR representative, Marfa Mata, Ramos will make his winterball debut on Wednesday and intends to play in at least a few games to show the fans his appreciation for their support during his abduction.

Wilson Ramos to play Wednesday in Venezuela

RedsFan - Wow - Comparing Ramos @ $410,000 per year and Sprewell @ $21,000,000 per year is ridiculous.  First, Ramos' take-home pay is going to be $250,000 or less after taxes and depending on how much Hugo Chavez taxes him.  Second, no one knows what the future holds for Ramos as a player (in terms of salary), or even as a person - the kidnapping shows how fragile life can be.

All I am saying is that he cannot afford to buy his family a house and move them up here on the major league minimum salary.  As a Nats fan, I hope he is well on his way to a great career and gobs of money.  He ain't there yet.

Wilson Ramos to play Wednesday in Venezuela

If keeps playing in Venezuela, I hope he pays the authorities for what it cost them to find and rescue him.  If these players are really being guarded as someone else mentioned, I hope they are paying for that as well.  If you want to be retarded, you should have to pay for it and not expect someone else to foot the bill.  These players want the locals to see them play?  You trying to tell me the invention of the television hasn't reached Venezuela yet?  If so, no wonder anyone with any kind of money at all is getting kidnapped.

Wilson Ramos to play Wednesday in Venezuela

WOW...the talk of Ramos not being able to live in an area with an anual salary of $410,000 a year. Maybe he couldn't buy a house outright but if he leased or acutally bought a house the way normal people do with that salary he better be able to live about anywhere he wanted to. Sounds like Latrell Sprewell saying he couldn't afford to feed his kids on a 21 million dollar salary that he was offered from the Minnesota Timberwolves a few years back!

Wilson Ramos to play Wednesday in Venezuela

mar725 - Nice thought on trying to get the Ramos family out of Venezuela, but it's not going to happen on a $410,000 per anum salary.  Ramos plays for the Nationals in one of the most expensive areas of the country, and $410,000 isn't going to buy much of a house in this area.  Further, $410,000 is his gross pay.  The taxes on that are going to be astronomical, especially if the US does not have a tax treaty with Venezuela.

There may come a point in Ramos' career when he can afford to move his family, but he ain't there yet.

People, he and the other Venezuelan Major League players there are now being guarded around the clock by both Major League Security and by the Venezulan police. They are safe. The thing I do not understand is why these players who ar making decent money get their families out of there. I believe that Ramos made $410, 000 last year. With that, you can buy your family and nice house in the U.S. to live in. I understand the culture and that these people have deep roots there, but with every thing that is going on, they need to get out. Remember, they are being ruled by a mad man dictator. This is no way to live, being under a constant threat.

Horrible decision on his part, but to each his own.  Annibal Sanchez made the smart move and cancelled his trip back home to Venezuela.

Gotta applaud Ramos for wanting to play in from of his native fans, but if I were his family/representation, I'd be advising against this. Obviously we don't know exactly what happened during his time under capture, it had to have been psychologically damaging. If I were Ramos, I'd be going somewhere very safe and just relax for a few weeks before worrying about baseball.
