Aramis Ramirez

By C. Trent Rosecrans

Free agent third baseman Aramis Ramirez won't be returning to the Cubs, his agent told MLB.com.

"That ship has sailed," Paul Kinzer told Carrie Muskat of MLB.com

Kinzer said Ramirez, 33, is looking for a three- or four-year deal with a new team, and is in no hurry to sign with a new team.

"As the market establishes itself and people find out if they're in or not on [Albert] Pujols or [Prince] Fielder, and who's in on [Jose] Reyes, Aramis is going to be there," Kinzer said. "He's not looking at an eight-year contract. He's going to be looking in the four-[year] ranger, and maybe three with an option. It's going to be his choice."

Ramirez hit .306/.361/.510 with 26 home runs and 93 RBI in 2011 and is a .284/.342/.500 hitter in his career. Ramirez struggled in 2010, but bounced back last season to be the Cubs' most productive hitter.

Ramirez is coming off a five-year, $71 million deal with the Cubs he signed after exploring free agency following the 2006 season. He was traded to Chicago in 2003 from Pittsburgh.

"There's no problems there, but it's the point where it's the end of an era," Kinzer told MLB.com. "They have some things they have to do, and at this point in his career, [Rafael Furcal] got his ring, and now Ramy wants his. He wants to go somewhere where he has a shot at a competitive team. He loves Chicago and it hurts for him to leave, but that's part of the sport."

Agent says Aramis Ramirez won't return to Cubs

As a Cubs fan Im glad to see him go!
I also be glad to see him go but only after we see who going replace him, Ramirez is a power hitter so I rather upgrade then to downgrade from Ramirez.

he was good for a long time in chicago, real good in "the bartman" year,he's getting older now and a better option at 3rd is needed.the cubs did pick up there end of the option though,so they didnt dump him as you guys think.if he accepted his part of the option he would of come back at around 16 million next year.

Kinzer says that after Epstein already said the Cubs have no interest in tendering Ramirez a contract. He is vastly overated. Defensively, he has no range at all and offensively only hits when it does not matter. He did nothing the last 2 years until June. He also is one of the worst in the major leagues in RISP with 2 outs. In 2008, he had good numbers and was the invisible man in the playoffs. This tells me without a doubt he is not a clutch player. One of the worst defensive 3rd basemen in either league and is on the downside of his career. I do not think there is anyway he will get 4 years, and will not get anywhere near the 16 mil a year he thinks he is going to get. At this stage of his career, he is basically a DH. From the Cubs point of view they are rebuilding and desparately need to be better defensively and he just is not any kind of fit for them with his mediocre defense.

Agent says Aramis Ramirez won't return to Cubs

I think the smart Cubs fans are glad to see him go.  The bulk of his stats occur once the season is over (which was in May in 2011).  Whether due to injury or just plain laziness, we're tired of seeing him loaf down the first base line and having about a 6 inch range at third, we're ready to move on as well.
