Manny Ramirez

Manny Ramirez wants to return to baseball, but the real question may be, does baseball want Manny Ramirez?

Ramirez, 39, retired in April after he faced a 100-game suspension after his second violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment program. Major League Baseball announced Ramirez has applied to be reinstated from the retirement list. In addition, MLB announced Ramirez would only have to serve 50 games of his suspension if he is signed.

Of course, it takes a team to take him before he could actually start his suspension, much less play. Ramirez not only has baggage, but also is limited to just designated hitter now, narrowing the market further for the slugger. He's also unlikely to be welcome in Boston, where he played from 2001-2008. The Rays could be somewhat interested in a return, while maybe the Orioles would be interested, since that seems to be the last stop for designated hitters before retirement and they're now lead by the man who signed Ramirez in Boston, Dan Duquette. Toronto could also be a possibility. Perhaps more likely, Ramirez could declare himself available and un-retired, but have no teams interested.

"Manny is always interesting and he’s never predictable, but I don't know too much about the mechanics of what we would have to do or if we could do it," Duquette told the Baltimore Sun. "Manny is always a lot of fun to be around and he is very entertaining."

Ramirez managed just one hit -- a single -- in 17 plate appearances for the Rays in 2011. Last offseason, the Rays were the only taker on Ramirez and signed him to just a $2 million contract -- before the suspension. Any team signing him would likely sign him for much less.

Manny Ramirez wants to return to MLB

No, there is something more that teams need to realize before they sign Manny. LA only got to see Manny for a little while. The first year was all Manny courting a new city, and trying to solidify his spot on the team. You saw the "best" Manny then.  The rest of the time, it was a honeymoon that went steadily down hill ending in his leaving, signing with anyone that would have him, and then screwing that team over as well.  I say to hell with him, and let him serve the entire suspension if he wants to play again, not half.

Manny does not know how to be a team player. He will not get along with Team management, and will alienate half of any team he signs with, and by doing that will drive a wedge between players. Those who "love" Manny, and those team mates who think he is an overrrated, selfish blowhard at this point in his career. It is not what he can or can't do for you (with or without the PEDs) We watched this for years on Boston. Where do you think the phrase "Manny being Manny" came from! He cr@pped on the Sox management, he cr@pped on players, he cr@pped on everyone involved with Boston Baseball at one time or another. We were so glad to see him leave (Especially after he shoved a 70 year old man to the ground for not being able to get enough game tickets for his entourage.)

No, any team that wants him can have him as far as I am concerend. He was once probably the best pure hitter in baseball for his time. Now, he is just a has-been trying to rescue some ballot votes for the HoF. Give it up, head back to your front porch and those "...boring tales of glory days."

Manny Ramirez wants to return to MLB

I'm not saying he is broke, but don't be naiive and think he may not have spent thru his wad.
$200 million over a career is a lot of money, but some people find a way to spend it.
Maybe it's not about money at all, but just because he made $200M doesn't mean he still has any of it.

Manny Ramirez wants to return to MLB

NYKLIB725:  Most of your post is a statement of obvious facts.  It's obvious that you hate Manny Ramirez.  But I'm sure you wish you had his money and career.  There have been cheaters in baseball since play began.  Most of the members of the Hall of Fame cheated at one point in their careers.  Manny has ALWAYS been an entertainer and great hitter for most of his career (PEDs or no PEDS).  He is selfish, like most humans.  He is irresponsible, like most professional athletes.  He used PEDs, like most MLB players during the "steroids era".  Why single him out as if he was the reincarnation of hitler.  Give me a break!!

Manny will play again (at the right price) if a team believes that he will help them win more games or make more money.  It's a business.  It's sports, not church!

Manny Ramirez wants to return to MLB

Sign him for $1, let him serve his suspension of 100 games.

Then bench him for the rest of the season.

Manny Ramirez wants to return to MLB

The guy is a proven multiple cheat, a major disruption in the clubhouse, at best a lazy-slow-no glove left fielder, and for one of the stupidest decisions, if it's true, he still has to sit for 50 games, now where is the value that he brings to ANY team?  I remember him sayiong that "If the money was right, he'd play for Iran".  Well there you go Manny, pack your stinking bags and go play there.

Manny Ramirez wants to return to MLB

Even though i can't stand manny ramirez i don't think he comes close to brett favre hype.  Watching mlb network or even ESPN you never heard manny mentioned much after everything was said and done.  Now when you switch channels over to the NFL network or ESPN his name pops up like there's no damn tomorrow.  This guy needs to just go away and thats the simple truth.

Reports: Manny Ramirez wants to return to MLB

this is getting to be even worse than brett favre because with favre teams still wanted him to be a starting qb so he was worth it in a was still incredibly annoying but with manny no one wants him so he just continues to embarrass himself
