Manny Ramirez

Manny Ramirez wants to return to baseball, but the real question may be, does baseball want Manny Ramirez?

Ramirez, 39, retired in April after he faced a 100-game suspension after his second violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment program. Major League Baseball announced Ramirez has applied to be reinstated from the retirement list. In addition, MLB announced Ramirez would only have to serve 50 games of his suspension if he is signed.

Of course, it takes a team to take him before he could actually start his suspension, much less play. Ramirez not only has baggage, but also is limited to just designated hitter now, narrowing the market further for the slugger. He's also unlikely to be welcome in Boston, where he played from 2001-2008. The Rays could be somewhat interested in a return, while maybe the Orioles would be interested, since that seems to be the last stop for designated hitters before retirement and they're now lead by the man who signed Ramirez in Boston, Dan Duquette. Toronto could also be a possibility. Perhaps more likely, Ramirez could declare himself available and un-retired, but have no teams interested.

"Manny is always interesting and he’s never predictable, but I don't know too much about the mechanics of what we would have to do or if we could do it," Duquette told the Baltimore Sun. "Manny is always a lot of fun to be around and he is very entertaining."

Ramirez managed just one hit -- a single -- in 17 plate appearances for the Rays in 2011. Last offseason, the Rays were the only taker on Ramirez and signed him to just a $2 million contract -- before the suspension. Any team signing him would likely sign him for much less.

Reports: Manny Ramirez wants to return to MLB

He played well because he was using banned substances!
Cool
Don't forget that Manny actually played extremely well in spring training for the Rays. I see Oakland as a team that could use a big bat and doesn't want to spend money. I don't think Manny cares about the money as much as he wants to prove that his excellent hitting isn't due to taking banned substances
He's been suspended now twice. Safe to say he is a cheater. They didn't ban him over Kool-Aid. It was in that same spring training where he tested positive.

Nobody will sign him unless he offers to come off the bench for free. There is no use in even speculating where he might land.

By the way remember 3 years ago Manny claimed he couldn't speak English and would only talk in Spanish? This was after listening to him talk English for 13 years! Manny will just say crazy stuff, only he knows why.

Reports: Manny Ramirez wants to return to MLB

I loved Manny when he was in Boston, but his time has passed. If he was a great team mate I could see bringing him back as a platoon DH like Jim Thome. But he isn't he will destroy team unity. He's such a nut that he won't even be able to be a part time hitter instructor for him younger team mates.

Manny isn't broke he just doesn't have a clue. His sister works for Fidelity and she has been handling his money for him for years, and unlike people who let their cousin Bob handle their money she is licensed and works for a firm that is bonded. If you wonder why he THINKS he's broke, google old Sport Illustrated stories where he didn't know enough to cash his checks and the Indians had to chase him down at the end of the year because he had $2.5 million in uncashed checks. Or how he asked his agent after he signed with Boston if he could buy a home in a neighborhood of $500,000 homes. Many athletes lose their money, but at least his sister seams to know what she's doing. This isn't internet rumors google the stuff and you'll see.
