DALLAS -- The Mets have all of a sudden been incredibly active Tuesday night. Not only did they sign a potential closer and make a trade, but now they've signed another potential closer: Frank Francisco. Ken Davidoff of Newsday is reporting the Mets have agreed to sign Francisco to a two-year deal, pending a physical. Jon Paul Morosi of FoxSports.com reports that the deal is for $12 million.

Francisco, 32, has a similar track record to newly-signed Met Jon Rauch, in terms of closing experience. In 2011, Francisco closed 17 games in 21 chances with a 3.55 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 53 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings. He has 49 career saves, but, like Rauch, has never held down a closing job for an entire season. The closest was in 2009, when Francisco had 25 saves, but C.J. Wilson also had 14 saves for the Rangers that year.

Expect Francisco and Rauch to battle for the closing job, maybe even split it, in 2011 with Bobby Parnell and newly-acquired Ramon Ramirez setting up. If the contract terms are any factor, Francisco will get first dibs at closing, because his deal is for longer and more annual money. Plus, Francisco was six-for-six in saves with a 2.70 ERA in September.

It's a step in the right direction. Mets need to realize you don't always have to make the big splash. It's more about assembling a team that can compete then getting that one guy. I think the Prince to the Jays rumor is a legit one. Seems like it is down to Milwaukee, Washington & possibly Toronto. I am salivating at the thought of Bautista & Fielder in the same lineup. Not going to count my chickens before they are hatched though.

Keep starters from having to go too long, keep scores low and hope to squeeze out some close wins, et. Pagan was traded and while he had some decent stats, never really had intangibles or baseball smarts. Alderson seemed to want him gone from day 1. I thought he was ok and he didn't really bother me, but won't terribly miss him. Although the Mets have been bad, there is talent there. Hoping they can do what they did last year........keep me interested through the summer. Here's to better days.

The exact details of the trade are not clear yet, but the key players involved are Albert Pujols, Hanley Rameriz, Kendry Morales, and Vernon Wells, with Pujols and Hanley Rameriz going to the Angels for a handful of players and also cash considerations The St. Louis Cardinals who were able to offer Albert Pujols the best contract available to him as far as money and total years goes will sign and trade away Pujols for players from both the Angels and the Marlins. After signing Pujols, the Cardinals will then trade him to the Angels who will in turn send a combination of players to both the Cardinals and the Miami Marlins. The Miami Marlins will then send Hanley Rameriz to the Angels. Under the new CBA, the Blue Jays will receive general compensatory picks, however it will not come from the Mets. That is why it made it worth signing them. My understanding is that the mets do not lose picks, but the blue jays do gain picks. Its almost a win for everyone, if the mets offered less. But I guess that they have some money to burn with the amount that came off the books this year, and wanted to solidify a bullpen that was awful last year.

That is why it made it worth signing them. My understanding is that the mets do not lose picks, but the blue jays do gain picks. Its almost a win for everyone, if the mets offered less. But I guess that they have some money to burn with the amount that came off the books this year, and wanted to solidify a bullpen that was awful last year.
