Dontrelle Willis signs with Phillies

The once-relevant Dontrelle Willis has gotten another shot -- this time on a team with a great pitching staff. The 29-year-old left-hander has signed with the Phillies, CBSSports.com Jon Heyman is reporting. The signing is pending a physical.

Willis won the NL Rookie of the Year in 2003 and was the runner-up in Cy Young voting in 2005, but he regressed in 2006, fell apart in 2007 and hasn't been able to do much of anything since. He was even demoted all the way to Class A at one point. Last season, he started 13 games for the Reds, going 1-6 with a 5.00 ERA and 1.52 WHIP.

With the Big Three, Vance Worley, Joe Blanton and Kyle Kendrick in Philly, don't expect the artist formerly known as D-Train to see the rotation anytime soon.

I have to assume, this is to have naother left handed option out of the bullpen, but as a Phillies fan, I have to question, why him???

I still hope this guy gets his mojo back. He was fun to watch and seems like a great guy, it's too bad mental illness hit this guy he could have had a great career!

Maybe they`ll deal the D-Train to their farm team now in the AL...you know the Houston Astros.  Do they have anything left worth pilfering?  Other possibility having someone as lousy and out of shape as Dontelle is makes Blumpkin...ERR Blanton look better.

If he can pitch in Cincy he can pitch in Philly. That said, he sucks. If he's anything better than mediocre I'll be shocked. Not a fan of this signing at all...especially if they gave him more than $3 million.

He pitched decent last year. He had just that one bad start against the Cubs where he really got roughed up. I don't see Philly improving his confidence with that little league psrk though.

Willis pitched pretty well for the Reds last year, had some bad luck early that affected his numbers.
I think he's in the wrong organization if he wants to revive his career, however. There isn't room for him.

If nothing else, he improves our bats from the left-side. Only 29. Worth a shot.
