Alex Rodriguez Kobe Bryant

By C. Trent Rosecrans

Apparently Alex Rodriguez's most trusted medical advisor is Kobe Bryant.

On Bryant's advice, Rodriguez went to Germany to undergo a therapy called Orthokine on his right knee and his shoulder, CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman confirms. Rodriguez underwent the procedure last month, but first cleared in with the commissioner' office to get the OK, Heyman was told. Rodriguez also gained permission from the Yankees before going to Europe for the treatment, where it was earlier in December.

Orthokine is a process that takes the blood from the patient's arm, spins it in a centrifuge and then into the problem area. Bryant underwent the same treatment last summer on his right knee and then again in October in his left ankle.

"A lot of athletes I've talked to really think this stuff works, but we really don't have a lot of scientific knowledge behind it of exactly what's happening," Dr. Jonathan Glashow, the co-chief of sports medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital, told the Post. "It's a great way to reduce inflammation and therefore pain, and that's the essence of it. I think a lot of the athletes who have wear-and-tear on their knees benefit from this. You do it for a while and if it doesn't stay good you do it again in a few years."

Rodriguez had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee in July. After the surgery, he hit .191/.345/.353 with three homers in 19 games and 84 plate appearances during the regular season and just .111/.261/.111 in the ALDS against the Tigers.

A-Rod went to Germany for knee procedure

Arod is our DH in two years.  but he's actually been good in the field when he's played.  so expect Arod to still hit 25+ homers a year since the wear and tear wont be as bad whe he's a full time DH.

as for letting him go and eating his salary for $20m?  obviously the guy who wrote that isnt paying attn.  first off, he makes $30M a yr.  second, baseball contracts are guaranteed, meaning they have to eat ALL SIX YEARS REMAINING.  thats 180M.  yeah sure, Yanks are gonna eat that.

Europe in many cases is just ahead of us in treatments. Too bad they have to go to another country.

A-rod is done. He is wasted meat. Pack him up and ship him to the glue factory. Tired of his usless butt anyway. He thinks he's superman but he is really Alice in wonderland.

A-Rod went to Germany for knee procedure

Bottom line is A-Rod is 35 or 36 with no legs left.  I m Yankee fan but they have to see it as it is.  No legs no power, bat slows down.  He is useless in field for future and at bat.  Yanks should take losses as big as they are and let him go, even if they have to eat the 20m salary.  Get third baseman or use guy who was on bench this year until they come up with someone.  Bat Tex 3rd, Cano 4th and Swisher 5th.  Unless they have someone else to fill in from minors this is it.  WOnt win a champinship until they get new blood out there.

Will take a good 3-4 years sorry.  By-by A-Rod.

A-Rod went to Germany for knee procedure

Simple and smart treatment...developed in Germany...if you have the money, that's the place to have the procedure done...oh, and safe.

A small withdrawal of blood is spun to seperate out one's own anti-inflammatory proteins that are then injected into the damaged joint....done several times in small increments to pinpoint all problem causeing areas...the result is reduced swelling, pain relief, and cartiledge protection. And dependant on how the joint is used...a permanent fix!!!... in the case of athletes, like Kobe, the pounding up and down the hardwood, the joint is abused as much as used...so the treatment can be safely repeated in a couple of years. Sure it will solve ARs issues w/ arthritis in the damaged joint[s]...it received approval from both leagues because it is completely safe and uses the bodys own defenders in a concentrated and pinpointed therapy...

End the hate...find out what you're talking about before you spill your bile.
