The Mets have agreed to re-sign outfielder Scott Hairston, pending a physical, CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports. The one-year deal is worth $1.1 million.

Hairston, 31, hit .235/.303/.470 with seven home runs for the Mets last season. He's hit .244/.303/.437 in parts of eight seasons with the Diamondbacks, Padres, A's and Mets.

New York is also looking at Ronny Cedenio, Ryan Theriot and Jack Wilson for its backup infielder spot, Heyman said.

Well they can't really afford anyone else and Selig won't force the Wipons to sell...

Hard to believe this is their first FA signing of the year. Whose next Dotel at middle relief. I know most Mets fans are pissed but there offense isn't horrible. They are currently a 75 win team. If they get a closer they could become an 80 win team.

is not bad for a career .244 hitter. I'd take that.

The key phrase: "pending a physical". Whether he has any injuries or not, the Mets' medical staff will either a) miss them, or b) mis-diagnose them. The guy could come in with his arm in a cast & they will declare a hamstring injury.

As a lifelong Mets fan, all I can say is that I am buying the MLB.com package, and don't really care that I'll be blacked out of Mets games. Note to Bud: your buddy is ruining this team, why can't you get fed up with the Mets like you did with the Dodgers? Instead, you just loan them money at an amazing rate? How are they going to pay that back with a half-full stadium, with nary a hot-dog buyer in the lot?

Why bother?  Bring up someone from Single A instead, he'd fit in better.  And backup infield spot?  Who the heck is starting in the MI?  Quintanilla?  Turner/Murphy at 2B, Ike at 1B and Wright at 3B.  This will be a sad, sad year.
