Cubs All-Star shortstop Starlin Castro has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman last fall, according to CBS Chicago.

The woman, reportedly in her 20s, said she was drinking with friends late last September when she and a friend left the bar and went to Castro's apartment at 3 a.m. She reportedly blacked out and then was allegedly being sexually assaulted by Castro when she came to. The police report, according to CBS Chicago, says the woman remembers screaming when she woke up at 5:30 a.m., yelled at Castro and left immediately. The alleged victim then filed a police report 12 hours later.

The Cubs have released the following statement:

“We are aware that a police report was filed regarding an incident involving Starlin, but we have received limited information. While this is something we take very seriously, there is not enough information to make any further comment or take action at this time. We are hopeful when the facts are brought to light, Starlin will be cleared of any wrongdoing.”

Castro's attorneys have released the following statement:

"We are aware of certain allegations that have been made against our client, Starlin Castro. We have thoroughly investigated this matter, and we are confident that these allegations are baseless. Given the sensitive nature of this matter, we cannot comment any further."

Castro, 21, has yet to be interviewed by police because he flew back to his home in the Dominican Republic, as scheduled, the very day the accuser filed her police report -- which was September 29, the day after the Cubs' season ended.

Report: Starlin Castro accused of sexual assault

Here is another quote from WBBM News Radio:

“She claims that she was drinking with friends at a River North nightclub ON THE NIGHT OF Sept. 29 when she met Castro.”

Now, to me, night could mean 11PM. In which case the assault could have happened on September 30 at 3AM.

Finally, let me say that if the timeline is off as is claimed, why haven’t Cubs’ spokespeople and attorneys just said so? And why hasn’t CBS Sports said how impossible this is? I don’t think the timeline is off, it is just not being reported properly; everyone knows this charge needs to be examined.

Report: Starlin Castro accused of sexual assault

A Die Hard Fan, please tell me your source where it says that she filed the police report on September 29 (besides this article). I have read the news reports, and I have read that she met Castro on September 29. Then at 3AM she went to his apartment. This could mean 3AM on September 30, NOT 29.

Almost every news article reports the following: “WBBM Newsradio in Chicago reports that the unidentified woman, who is in her 20s, was at a River North nightclub Sept. 29 when she met Castro. After 3 a.m. CT, she went with a friend to his apartment, where she alleges that the assault took place.” This is what I have read; they met on the 29th but it doesn’t say what time they met. They could have met at 10PM and then 3AM the assault occurred.

No news article states that the lady filed a police report on September 29. I would be interested to know where Matt got this information. All the reports I have seen say that a police report was filed, but do not give a date of the filing. You are suggesting she met Castro in Chicago after midnight on the 29th, which I agree would have been impossible.

Report: Starlin Castro accused of sexual assault

syeely, as it says in the article, and has been reported in the Chicago papers and newscasts:  "Castro, 21, has yet to be interviewed by police because he flew back to his home in the Dominican Republic, as scheduled, the very day the accuser filed her police report -- which was September 29, the day after the Cubs' season ended."

ALL accounts have her filing 12 hours after the alleged rape.  She filed on September 29, a FACT that the Chicago police have verified.  And Castro was definitely in San Diego for the game that started at 5:35 PM local time (7:35PM Chicago time), he went 1-3 and played the entire game.  The game lasted 2 hours and 38 minutes.  Meaning the game ended at 10:13 PM Chicago time.  I'll assume it takes at least an hour, on the low end, for all the players to shower and head off to the airport.   Say, 11:15 now (again, Central time). Another 30 to 45 minutes to get there and get on the plane.  It's a 4 to 4 and half hour flight from SD to Chicago.  The absolute earliest he could be back in Chicago, on the ground, is 4:00am.  (I know earlier in a previous I had said the game was 2 hours later than it was, I misread the game time start as Pacific time and not Central time.  It was pointed out to me that I was wrong, and I admit I was then about the time.)

Now going back to her account of things, they went back to his place (supposedly) at 3:00am.

You do the math and tell me how that works out.

Why would the girl lie?  People do not lie just to gain fame and fortune.  She has no reason to lie and a few million dollars would not make someone not tell the truth.

I really hope that is sarcasm.

In fairness to Castro, the lady might be mistaken on who assaulted her. It could have been an imposter; believe it or not there are men out there who pretend to be baseball players. There is much to the story that hasn't come out, and perhaps never will.

Report: Starlin Castro accused of sexual assault

The story, as I have read it in a million places, was that the woman met Castro in the River North area on September 29. This was the day AFTER the Cubs final game. The lady went to Castro’s apartment at 3AM, but this could be 3AM on September 30. The storyline is confusing.
