The Mets and utility infielder Ronny Cedeno have agreeing upon a one-year contract worth about $1.2 million, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

Cedeno, 28, hit .249/.297/.339 for the Pirates last season as their everyday shortstop (for most of the season), the same role he held in 2010 for Pittsburgh. He's spent all but 59 games of his big-league career in the NL Central, as he played for the Cubs for four years and the Mariners for about a half season.

Cedeno is a decent defensive player and his value stems from being able to play second, short or third. While it's true Jose Reyes is gone, don't mistake this signing as a replacement. Ruben Tejada will be the Mets' shortstop while Cedeno serves as a backup option for Tejada, second baseman Daniel Murphy and third baseman David Wright. Justin Turner is also a backup option, so Cedeno's playing time won't be easy to come by, unless the Mets have another season chock full of injuries.

Mets, Ronny Cedeno agree to one-year deal

I've been a season ticket holder since 1997....I will boycott the Mets till Wilpon is gone. Not one game even if someone offers me to go for free. This disgusting man doesn't give a crap about us Mets fan. They sent me to jail for taking pictures from my seats in early April of 2009 after spending 70K on eight seats. Just wanted to take pictures to help sell my extras on ebay. Wilpon had me arrested and I spent the most misrable night of my life in a Queens jail. Karma is coming to Jeff Wilpon. Hope he has to go out and find a real job without Daddy's help....

Just boycott going to Citifield till Wilpon and Co. are forced to sell. Owners will force Selig the weasel to clamp down on the Mets like they did with the Dogers.

The best way to ensure that the Wilpons sell, is to boycott. Don't go to any games or buy any Met stuff until there is new ownership in place. It is embarassing what they have done to this team; it's even worse now than it was in the mid 70's!

The Mets are a SAD team!!! For Gods sake you Play in NY!! I cant believe you would even think os putting this band of Crap on the feild
Johan is a few pitches away from retirement, Jason Bay is worthless and you now have a platoon of R Cedeno and Tejada LOL!!!
When the Mets take the field this year they will do so Knowing that they are  so horrible that they had to bring the fences in !
How could you be a MLB player and know that your team is that bad??? Minaya set the Mets back 6 years.
When RA Dickey is one of your Aces, You should just pack it in. Get rid of Wright for 2 or 3 good prospects and maybe you could bait some team into taking Pelfry. But if they win 45 games it will be  a good year SAD.

Why is it when a team decides to rebuild, it always signs crappy defensive players who can't hit a lick. It would rather see a young team of kids battling for spots rather than a player who won't be here long term either way.

I don't want Mark Cuban involved in baseball at all.  He can stick to the lame NBA.

Is there a contest for a team to have the most amount of .240 hitters. IF there is watch out NL East cause we are stacked top to bottom with sub average hitters.
