Report: Orioles, Jays to look at Manny Ramirez

Could Manny Ramirez be headed back to the AL East? According to a report from ESPN Deportes (via Hardball Talk), the controversial slugger will soon hit in a batting cage for scouts from the Blue Jays and Orioles in Miami. He will be having a workout later this month for any interested clubs, so this might be a sign the Jays and O's are more serious than others.

Ramirez will have to serve a 50-game suspension for testing positive for a banned substance last season -- before he retired it was set to be 100 games, but since he sat out basically all of last season it's been reduced to 50 -- before hitting the diamond.

Also, Ramirez isn't exactly young. He'll turn 40 before his 50-game suspension is completed.

When he's motivated and not suspended, Ramirez can probably still hit the ball. He was one of the best right-handed hitters of all-time for a long stretch. His career line of .312/.411/.585 with 555 home runs and 1,831 RBI would certainly be a lock to get him into the Hall of Fame had he not tested positive for PEDs twice.

He does have a history of "Manny Being Manny," well, everywhere, but one of his best moments of tomfoolery came in Camden Yards. See below.

The Jays won't sign Manny.  They just inquire about everyone so that teams from thier division over pay for players.

manny is a crazy person he would be terrible in the locker room. i dont think he can hit anymore mentally and physically he is through. he does not care who wins, he just wants a few more big bucks. these general managers think too much about a players past performance, and are conceited enough to think they are the one that can bring that spark back.

Are both franchises begging for publicity?  Why in the world would you let that cancer into your club house?  I could understand and really if I had about 12 beers in me if Manny was 30.  Then give it a shot and see how long you can ride the wave.  Howver he is going to be 40!  The guy is selfish, droid user and bad teamate.  What kind of production are you going to get in a guy who may actually be older than 40?  If these teams would actually try and build a structure from the lowest levels of rookie ball through the major leagues than maybe they would not have to throw out a manny watch in 2012.

I am not an Oriole's fan, but I would like to know why the Orioles would want another Albert aka "Joey" Belle on their team...

Rays need a DH still, Manny could be the cheapest on the market. Considering who was to make around 3 million before testing positive again, the Rays should be able to get him at around 1 million because he could only play 2/3 of a season.

AA and the Jays will NEVER sign Ramirez, never-ever. I expect he'll continue to work at quietly improving the team throughout next season with eyes to really making a run the following year. We'll see much, much more of David Cooper this coming season...
