Cespedes says 6 teams showing 'a lot' of interest

Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes told Dominican reporter Dionisio Soldevilia (via Twitter) that the Marlins, Cubs, White Sox, Orioles, Tigers and Indians have "a lot of interest" in signing him.

Cespedes made his Dominican Winter League debut on Thursday night, going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and was hit by a pitch for Aguilas. Cespedes served as the team's DH and batted fifth in the team's 6-4 loss. Aguilas plays again Friday night.

It was Cespedes' first competitive game since last April when he played in Cuba's Serie Nacional. While the performance couldn't help Cespedes' bargaining power, it shouldn't hurt it too much. It is, as they say, a small sample size.

Cespedes says 6 teams showing 'a lot' of interest

Notably absent: Yankees and Red Sox. Since they have better advance scouting than everyone else, it would seem that Cespedes is either going to be over priced, or is just not as good as advertised. There is an old saying about prospects: "If the Yankees are interested, you can't outbid them. If the Yankees are not interested, you shouldn't be interested either."

I like your take STEVIO.He kinda reminds me of Jacoby Ellsbury when he started out.....and we both know how he has developed.I was hoping the Red Sox would show some interest but the signing thing has left a BAD taste in their mouths I think.Miami would certainly be the best landing spot for him.Very interesting season ahead my friend.

When some teams are willing to spend 100 million just for the rite to negotiate with someone I would say 4-5 years for 30 million doesn't seem like a bad investment.I dont think going 0-3 in one baseball game will hurt his value at all.

Two words for Cespedes "off speed", like every Cuban hitter coming into the league this guy will get eaten alive by curve balls and change ups.  Only bad pitchers who make to many mistakes will make this guy look good at the plate.  A good hitting coach might be able to help him out, but he has a lot of improvements to make in order to handle major league pitching day in and day out.  He will hit some bombs though, and who doesn't like that!

Cespedes fits in well with the movement the Chicago Cubs Have started. Young talent that can be controlled for a fair amount of time. Should have plenty of cash to spend since there not getting in  on Prince. Young upside players seem to be the direction Theo and Co. are headed. If it were me though, I think the guy I'm more interested in is Soler.
i believe soler would probably be the better longterm investment, cespedes could probably come in right away and possibly challenge dejesus who will probably end up in right, but he is also about 6-7 years older than soler, but regardless of which one of these 2 the cubs sign, i will be interested to see how brett jackson eventually works his way into the race for playing time

I think that with a good hitting coach this guy has some upside that does make me curious. However, until he proves himself I say pay him like a spring training invitation of a AAA player. With that being said, structure his contract has a large back end and some club options after a couple of years. I also think someone will over pay for this guy if they do not have the facilities to acclimate him to this level of competition.

If he does sign with Miami, he will have a very mastered group of pitchers to face on a regular basis given that he will play Phillidelphia several times this year.  Also keep in mind playing in October and April is nothing like he faced in Cuba. Another reason why Miami makes the most sense. If he could on the other hand mash MLB's best pitchers and become a legend in a town whos stadium resides in the Little Cuba section of Miami. You never know he may inspire a true baseball culture in Miami. It would be really cool to have a home run slugger again.

This should be a very interesting season.

This guy will be a K machine .. hitting batting practice on videos is a joke.  Thank God the Red Sox aren't getting duped into this signing this guy.
