Hiroki KurodaBy C. Trent Rosecrans

The Yankees have rebuilt their rotation in one night, not only trading for Michael Pineda, but also agreeing to a one-year deal with right-hander Hiroki Kuroda worth "around" $10 million, CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports.

Yankees' big night

Kuroda, 36, was 13-16 with a 3.07 ERA for the Dodgers last season. In four seasons in Los Angeles, Kuroda was 41-46 with a 3.46 ERA.

Kuroda pitched 202 innings in 32 starts for the Dodgers last season, striking 161 batters and walking 49, as his win-loss record took a major hit by bad run support from his teammates.  At one point he lost 10 of 11 decisions despite putting up a 3.12 ERA and holding opponents to just a .244 batting average.

Seems like a smart move to me.  Even if he adds a run to his ERA going from NL to AL and pitching in Yankee Stadium he still will get twice the rum support and give you 200 innings.  Plus, no long term contract to hamper the Yanks in future years.

I love this Move by the Yankees.
For one, Reports were that Boston was close to a deal with Kuroda, so it takes a player away from Boston.

Second, Kuroda has consistenyly been a very productive pitcher over his career, and it adds another veteran presence, to a rotation that will have youth in it (Hughes, Pineda, Nova)

Third, It now makes what used to be a weakness on the team a VERY big strength.

Excellent move

Yanks now have 7 "starters",  today was definitely a good day for the yanks!  After all is said and done, I think they trade 1 of the starters for a bat.
What starter are the Yankees going to get a bat for??  Especially a bat that would even play in their lineup??  If they had quality starters to begin with -- they wouldn't have traded away their top prospect for Pineda and they wouldn't have signed Kuroda.

These guys are sub-.500 for a reason,
Yes, and I'll just bet it has something to do with the other team scoring more runs than their own team in the games they pitch.  Wins and losses are generally a poor reflection of a pitcher's production and ability.  Kuroda can pitch.  I hate the Yankees, but they're going to be much better in 2012 than they were last year.  Cashman was smart enough to realize the smoke and mirrors that voodoo magic that brought Colon and Garcia back from the dead would never hold up two years in a row.  Smart moves by the Yankees getting two rotation guys (one with great potential) for a DH and some cash.

These guys are sub-.500 for a reason, but that doesn't mean they'll be winners with the Yanks.  I'm not sold.  (But then, I wasn't sold on Garcia or Colon, last year, and that worked out great.)
