Oft-injured fireballer Joel Zumaya has agreed to a deal with the Twins,'s Jason Beck reports. Zumaya will have a base salary of $800,000, but could earn as much as $1.7 million with incentives. While pending a physical, the agreement is for a big-league deal, sources tell

Zumaya, 27, hasn't pitched in a game since 2010 when he left the game after a fracturing his right, pitching, elbow on a pitch in June of that year. Zumaya threw in spring training last year, but had another surgery to help aid his elbow injury after feeling pain.

Before getting hurt, Zumaya appeared to regain his form from his rookie season in 2006 when he struck out 97 batters in 83 1/3 inning and helped lead the Tigers to the World Series.

When he's healthy, Zumaya can be an intimidating force out of the bullpen, topping 100 mph. But injuries have derailed his career.

Love this guy, and the emotion he brings to the mound.  There have been a ton of guys who have also seen their careers get derailed due to  injuries, but there aren't many guys who topped 100 mph,

Pretty cool gamble for the Twins, but for his sake, I hope it works out.

100% agree with DieHard. As a huge Tigers fan...I will hate seeing him on a division rival...but I wish the best for him.  He's a fun guy to watch pitch...and his teammates in Detroit loved him

I wish Zumaya all the best with his career.  The guy brings so much intensity to the game and I just hope that he can refind that form that made him so dangerous.  While he may no longer be with my Tigers, I will still root for him as long as the Twins are not playing the Tigers.  May you stay healthy Zumaya and prove why you are still a top tier 8th inning guy
