Ryan BraunBy C. Trent Rosecrans

National League MVP Ryan Braun will appear at this Saturday's Baseball Writers Association of America dinner, as CBSSports.com Insider Jon Heyman reported earlier this month. But the question remains if he'll say anything regarding his positive drug test last season?

Braun's spokesman, Matthew Hiltzik, told the New York Times on Wednesday that Braun would show up, accept the award and make a short speech.

However, Braun, who hasn't made any public statements since news broke that he'd failed the drug test in October, isn't expected to do any interviews.

Braun, and other winners of the BBWAA awards, are expected to attend the dinner. It seems unlikely that he will address the failed test before his appeal is ruled upon by MLB.

Braun and his representatives have steadfastly denied any wrongdoing, while admitting the positive drug test.

I am not buying the "herpes" excuse -- you do not take large doses of sythetic testosterone to treat herpes.
I am guessing that the only people who know what you take to treat herpes are either people who have herpes, or a doctor. So which one are you?

Not like Braun has anything else to do until the all-star break.  He`s really got giant stones to show up and flaunt his steroid fueled MVP the cheat.  Hebrew Hammer should hand that tainted MVP to Kemp and go hide until June.

All of this really doesnt matter, Braun knows exactly what he can and cannot put into his body. If he decided not to ask his doctor what the ingredients were for whatever he was taking, then its STILL HIS FAULT! It doesnt matter what the substance was, that is irrelevant. Every drug on that list is banned because it enhances an athletes performance. Every player knows what drugs are on the list, and they are not going to take something without any knowledge of the ingredients. There is NO EXCUSE.

Dont know why there are any people defending this guy....

Braun will not address the falied PED test during his speech. His virtual silence to this point speaks volume to the type of person he is. I guarantee that at the end of the day Braun will argue some fradulent medical conditon that caused him to test positive for the synthetice testosterone that was found in his system.

@VegasPackerFan -- for one, there is a big difference between a cortico steroid cream you'd take for a "rash" and anabolic steroids that the players are/were using to increase strength, stamina and shorten healing times.  You're comparing apples to oranges.  Second, it is not up to us to know what is on the list of banned substances -- that is what Braun knew or should have known.  But, I do know the list contains PEDs, HGH AND substances that may not be performance enhancing themselves but mask the presence of banned substances.  Third, we do know, essentially, what Braun took as the reports are that he tested positive for record high levels of synthetic testosterone.  Fourth -- you may be right and we can't KNOW for sure whether or not that the banned substance "helped him play better" but they are banned because the can or do help someone play better or mask the fact you're taking something else that does.  Doesn't matter whether or not Braun or anyone else think it helped -- the substance is banned, so its cheating to take it, you get suspended.  End of story.

If Braun stands up like a man, admit's his wrongdoings and then presents the award to Matt Kemp, he can save face and gain a lot of respect in the community.

Anything short of that and he's a selfish, cheating imposter, and is very deserving of his 50-game suspension.

I'll tell you what's flawed...what's flawed is that they had the results of his test before they awarded him the NL MVP and they still gave it to him.
I agree with everything you said but this -- Braun did not test positive until October.  By that time the voting was already done.  Also, if I am not mistaken, the BWAA had already announced the award before the test results were leaked.  So, I will give the writers a break in voting for Braun (even though I would have voted for Kemp) and announcing the award BUT there is no excuse for not now stripping the award from Braun and awarding it to Kemp now that they know of the positive test.

Do any of the expets on PED's posting here actually know what is on the list of banned substances for MLB players? Do you know what Braun tested positive for? Roids are a thing of the past for PED's. HGH is is used now. Very very very hard to test for. But very costly. Then again I am sure if a MLB player making MILLIONS of dollars wanted to cheat he would use something that 99% of the posters on here could get paid for by their insurance company. Braun did test positive for a BANNED substance under MLB rules, that is true. Did it help him play better? We will never know but I highly doubt it. BTW you can get a steroid for a rash, but I highly doubt taking that would make you a MLB MVP. But taking it will get you 50 games if you were a MLB player.
