Gary Carter's health worsens

Unfortunately, the news keeps getting worse when it comes to the cancerous tumors in Hall of Famer Gary Carter's brain. The most recent news is "extremely grave," per the New York Daily News. Carter fell violently enough on Christmas Day to tear his rotator cuff and the most recent MRI has revealed even more spots and tumors, according to Carter's daughter (on their family website).

What's worse, Carter doesn't sound like he's optimistic at all.

"I'm not feeling too good," he told New York Daily News a few weeks ago. "It's been coming on and coming on. I've had a chest cold. I've got sores in my mouth, blood clots. I get sick ... there's just so many things ... It's been nine months now and I don't feel any different from Day One. I haven't been up to doing any interviews."

Finally, the worst news of all is that the Daily News is reporting that doctors are considering no further treatment.

Gary Carter's health worsens

Sorry to read about this....Carter was a such a gamer when he played.  If this is indeed the end, I hope the doctors and his family and close friends can make him as comfortable as possible.

I'm praying for you Gary

The last time I saw Gary Carter was in the lobby of the Pro Player Stadium press box entrance before game 7 of the 1997 World Series between the Florida Marlins and Cleveland Indians. Gary was convincing his way into the press box entrance while I was hustling down to the stadium kitchen. He yelled my name over a loud croud and I looked, waved and yelled back 'Hi Gary'!
I met Gary, while I was in college in 1994, at Joe Robbie Stadium.
He was working for the Sunshine Network and I worked in the baseball press box.
When I had the chance to meet him, I let him know that he was my all-time favorite Met.
My Father, several years earlier, bought me an old SI mag that featured him on the cover as an N.L. All-Star. The picture showed Gary rounding the bases after hitting a home run.
I gave him the magazine mentioning that he should give it to his kids.
Also, I mentioned that nine years earlier, I missed out on an autograph signing that he was conducting for the grand opening of a bank in Belleville, New Jersey.
The line was closed off when I arrived and I went hope disappointed with only a black and white unsigned publicity photo of the kid.
With the picture still in my possession, Gary said to bring it along to the stadium one day.
I did just that. Gary not old signed the b&w, he also gave me a signed color photo of him standing on the field at Shea Stadium.
That wasn't it, Gary also gave me a signed copy of his book 'Gamer' with an inscription inside the cover.
Included in his writing was 'let me know if there is anything that I could ever do for you' and closed it 'God Bless'.
Well Gary, God Bless you. You are still my favorite Met.

A Hall of Fame catcher and a more importantly, a Hall of Fame dad and person.  Anyone who ever watched Gary play can appreciate his talents, hustle, spirit and love for the game.  Keep fighting 'Kid' !!  My thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Gary Carter's health worsens

So many dumb comments from so many dumb people on here. The guy took a turn for the worst and people have to talk about well he wasnt the best catcher ever and he dont belong in the HOF. Everything is a debate even when the guy is dangerously ill.
