Gary Carter's health worsens

Unfortunately, the news keeps getting worse when it comes to the cancerous tumors in Hall of Famer Gary Carter's brain. The most recent news is "extremely grave," per the New York Daily News. Carter fell violently enough on Christmas Day to tear his rotator cuff and the most recent MRI has revealed even more spots and tumors, according to Carter's daughter (on their family website).

What's worse, Carter doesn't sound like he's optimistic at all.

"I'm not feeling too good," he told New York Daily News a few weeks ago. "It's been coming on and coming on. I've had a chest cold. I've got sores in my mouth, blood clots. I get sick ... there's just so many things ... It's been nine months now and I don't feel any different from Day One. I haven't been up to doing any interviews."

Finally, the worst news of all is that the Daily News is reporting that doctors are considering no further treatment.

Gary Carter's health worsens

my dad was a catcher when he was young, and so i embraced the position. (i was huskey so i would have been one anyway.) he always talked about roy campanella and bill dickey. "best that everwere" he'd say. i grew up in the late sixties-early seventys. great catchers weren't big in this era. you had bench and freehan, fosse and munson for a while'; i was a jerry grote fan. lou brock feared this mans arm. but around the time i was 16 "the kid" was making a name for himself in montreal. but it became clear he was way to big for that city. when he came to the mets he really did peak, and man did he fit in ny. i think he homered in his first game as a met. from then on you new this team was gonna be somthing. now i'm no met fan, just a ny'er, but he was damn good. hall of fame good. what i was leading to in the begining was that we're lucky if in our time we get to see such a player dominate at his position like carter did. it's sad to read the health updates. lets hope he does't suffer to much.

Gary Carter's health worsens

As Dylan Thomas penned in 1951 "Do not go gentle into that goodnight. Rage, rage against the dying of the light"
If all that is left is the dying of the light, then the Kid fought the good fight.
Thanks for the memories Kid, and that walk off on opening day in particular. I'll choose to picture you rounding first with your arm up and slapping your hands together.
That's the Kid I will remember.

Gary Carter's health worsens

Sad to hear about Gary Carter. Hard to imagine seeing such a strong man become so frail with health problems. If there is hope for him, I hope it comes soon. If not, I hope he can go through as little pain and suffering as possible.

Amazing as a player, and informative as an analyst for my Florida Marlins. My prayers are with him and his family.

Gary Carter's health worsens

Sorry to hear about Gary Carter. He helped my fantasy baseball team win several times back in the day before they were even called fantasy teams (it was called rotisserie baseball then). In the days when we had to wait untl the Sporting News came out each week to add up our weekly stats and there was no ESPN, etc., my wife once asked why there were several long distance calls to New York on the phone bill. I had to confess I had been calling the Mets to find out if Carter was going on the DL a week before my mid-season draft.

I wish only the best for Gary and his family.

Gary Carter's health worsens

I was not a big Gary Carter fan but I respected the way he played and the way he is fighten this cancer just like the way he played with courage and emotions. We all know he is going to a better place. To Gary Carter and his family I pray for you.
