Free-agent outfielder Ryan Spilborghs has agreed to a deal with the Cleveland Indians, Insider Jon Heyman reports.

Spilborghs, 32, hit .210/.282/.305 with three home runs in 223 plate appearances as a backup outfielder with the Rockies last season. He's a .272/.345/.423 hitter in his seven seasons in the big leagues -- all in Colorado.

The Rockies non-tendered Spilbroghs last month.

A right-handed hitter, he could help out Cleveland's left-handed lineup, which features three left-handed hitters in the outfield in Grady Sizemore, Shin-Soo Choo and Michael Brantley. Designated hitter Travis Hafner, second baseman Jason Kipnis and third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall are all left-handed hitters as well.

the indians will contend with detroit for the playoffs. their rotation is good. theyre bullpen is top 5 in the AL. and their offense should be decent. still need another batter but theyre improving. optimistic about the indians who came out of nowhere last year

Spilly is just like any other ball player he needs to hit a lot more. When he was getting regular at bats he had his avg. close to .295 has some pop a good person and a great clubhouse guy watch Indian fans you will like him.

Nice run as a bench player in COL, but Schpilly was just good enough to let you down in key situations after getting your hopes up all game.  He's known as a great teammate - in COL he'd organize crazy s***for guys to do on road trips, and he never seemed to take himself too seriously.  Probably be a good solid coach one day.

Did a little more checking but couldn't find out if this guy has any minor league options remaining or not.  i sure hope he does.  Except for 2011, he actually has decent numbers for a bench player.  Good career on base percentage of .345 and a pretty decent OBP + Slugging of about .770 (and that's with a poor 2011 season).  Looks to me like Antonetti and Shapiro are trying to catch lightning in a bottle once again.  If he can return to form prior to 2011, he could be a pretty good 4th outfielder.  If not, we've got another David DaLucci or Jason Michaels on our hands!

I doubt if this guy was picked up to even play for the Indians this year.  Is he even on the 40 man roster or is he a spring training invitee?  If anything, the Tribe is restocking their minor league system with these kind of signings, or at best, taking fliers on guys they think MIGHT work out.  They are certainly not making plans for this guy to be in the everyday lineup.  Their has to be a trade coming soon for a RH bat either at 1B, 3B or the OF.

Thank you Mr. Dolan on finally opening your wallet to get some real talent in town! I know I'll be at the ball park this year.

He is pretty much a zero tool player. Plus he''s getting old. Plus he can't hit outside of Denver. Glad the White Sox didn't get him.

Three HR's in Denver where the ball jumps out of the don't send him to the plate hoping to get a deep fly ball for a sacrifice fly.

You think Spilborghs is going to play 90-120 games? Really? That would mean he's basically a starter.  That's almost 75% of the games.  I'd say he'd be lucky to see 80 games.  He'll play against lefty pitchers, but that's about it.  The Indians outfield is pretty full ahead of him with Sizemore, Choo, Brantley, Duncan, and even Carerra will get some playing time again this season.
