Reyes to get dreads cut on MLB Network Friday

Bye bye, dreads.

When star shortstop Jose Reyes signed a lucrative contract to play with the Miami Marlins for the next six years, he knew he would have to leave more than his Mets career behind. Per Marlins policy, Reyes' hair is too long and he'll have to hack off the dreads. In and of itself, that's pretty boring news -- you can look at the picture above to get a decent idea of how he'll look, even though that picture was taken back in 2003.

But this is news because Reyes is making an event of cutting his hair.

“It’s official: Jose Reyes will cut off his trademark long hair Friday on the MLB Network. More details to follow,” tweeted Reyes' agent, Chris Leible Tuesday night (via Fish Tank blog).

So, if this sort of thing interests you, watch Reyes' haircut on MLB Network Friday. I can't say I'll be tuning in for that, but hey, to each his own.

Bud Selig probably mandated that this BE news.

Boring...becuase the Marlins haven't been in the news, what,  in the last few days ? It's time... Maybe they'll sign Yoenis Cespedes to cut Reyes' dreads...

Bud needs a new big-market cash cow, and it's Miami's turn. They've done as much as anyone could expect to put their best foot forward- new stadium, Ozzie Guillen, Reyes, Buehrle, Bell, Zambrano...rumors of a cable network documentary series to follow them through the season this year...

If the Marlins can stay healthy, and Ozzie can perform a successful excorcism of Hanley Ramirez' motivational demons, they have plenty to hype...all they need are for fans to notice, and show up.

The Marlins aren't perfect, but they are spicy...a good start.

Can we get his dreads into a uniform to bat leadoff for the Mets this year? I think it may just come down to that scenario.

I like how everyone is complaining that this isn't news, but it has 2 pages of comments already. Don't you guys get it by now? It doesn't need to be news, these reporters get paid by how many clicks their story receives. The more ridiculous the headline, the more clicks they are sure to receive. Trust me, they know this isn't news and they don't care. They just want the clicks.

Are we kidding here, a player getting his hair cut is in the news.  What's the matter Matt, no body twitter you this morning so you had to settle for this crap.  Sure hope you didn't get paid for this, if so your boss got robbed.

It's always darkest before the dawn.  C'mon spring training.  A story like this confirms the fact that pitchers and catchers will be reporting soon. Tho, there still might be time for a story featuring Pujols counting the stitches on a baseball, alternating english & spanish numbers.

This show may be almost as exciting as the day they blew up that baseball.

Why would anyone think of actually watching this???

OMG, this is about the most laughable thing I've ever seen to promote a players arrival at a new team.  What's next a Bris Milah?
