Justin VerlanderBy C. Trent Rosecrans

Justin Verlander is on a roll. Not only did he pick up the American League MVP and Cy Young, but the Tigers' pitcher nailed the Super Bowl score in a celebrity Super Bowl poll.

Earlier this week, Verlander predicted the Giants' 21-17 victory over the Patriots in Super Bowl in the Scripps Howard Celebrity Super Bowl Poll. He was the only celebrity to nail the winner and score. Adam West, the original Batman on TV, had the score right, but the winner wrong, picking the Patriots to win 21-17.

Verlander took to Twitter to gloat:

As for other baseball players, Yogi Berra picked the Giants to win 23-20, former Dodgers pitcher Ralph Branca picked the Patriots to win, 20-13 and the San Diego Chicken also picked the Giants.

Verlander correctly picked Super Bowl score

The Lions are up and comers, nothing more or less. They have a long way to go before they can play with the NFC's elite teams. You ought to wait until they win a playoff game for the first time in 50 years before you get your hopes up.

Fair enough, the Lions ARE up and comers, nothing more nothing less.  BUT, easy with your sarcasm and trash talk at the end of your post buddy because this new Lions management team literally started over 3 years ago.  Only about 4 players on this roster from the 0-16 team.  Do you know how tough it is to do what Mayhew has done in 3 years in Detroit? An expansion team would have been a much easier way to go then what these guys had to do.   The Lions need 3 or 4 players on the defensive side of the ball to compete with the big boys.  At least one more linebacker, a shutdown corner and a safety.  Also don't forget the Lions lost their top 3 running backs this year.  One in the pre-season and 2 by about week 5 yet they still scored a lot of points and won 10 games.

And like it or not, we'll be excited and get our hopes up. You're an Eagles fan aren't you? You're a Phillies fan aren't you?  You guys have been all over these boards the last 2 years telling us how awesome those teams are yet what have they won?

I don't fault fans for getting excited about their teams....  a real fan gets excited, if he doesn't then he's not much of a fan.

Don't know why he bothered hashtagging the Lions and Pistons...no chance in hell they bring it home anytime soon. Pretty impressive that he nailed the score though.

Since you don't watch football let me educate you a little bit about the Lions.  They are an up and coming team with an explosive offense that's about to get a lot better next year.  And they are only 2 or 3 defensive players away from making some real noise in the playoffs son.

The Pistons?  They aren't going anywhere anytime soon, but neither are at least 25 or more other NBA franchises.  Only 3 or 4 teams really have a chance to win anything in the NBA, and without a hard cap that's never going to change.

Just curious, why does Verlander have a New York Jets coat on?  Is he a fan?

XFactor09, I'm not sure if you follow baseball, but the Tigers are looking pretty good right now.  Likely AL champs.  As far as the Lions go, they are a few defensive players away from making a serious playoff run.  Two good drafts, maybe one great one, and one or two free agents, and the Lions have a chance to do some real damage.   The thing that the Detroit teams know is that they have the support of the whole city behind them, and they preform better knowing we are conting on them.
