Remember former Red Sox pitcher Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd? He also pitched for the Expos and Rangers, but the overwhelming majority of his career was with the Boston Red Sox. He was a significant part of the rotation on the 1986 World Series team. He also evidently liked to pitch while under the influence of cocaine.

“Some of the best games I’ve ever, ever pitched in the major leagues I stayed up all night; I’d say two-thirds of them,” said Boyd (CBS Boston), after admitting that he was under the influence of cocaine "in every ballpark" he'd ever pitched.

Oil Can wasn't done, saying not all his teammates did enough to help him:

“All of them didn’t rally around me,” he explained (CBS Boston). “All of them knew and the ones that cared came to me. The Dwight Evans and Bill Buckners… It was the veteran ball players. Some guys lived it… They knew what you were doing, and the only way they knew was they had to have tried it too.”

And that race was part of the issue:

“The reason I caught the deep end to it is because I’m black. The bottom line is the game carries a lot of bigotry, and that was an easy way for them to do it,” Boyd said (CBS Boston). “If I wasn’t outspoken and a so-called a ‘proud black man,’ maybe I would have gotten the empathy and sympathy like other ballplayers got that I didn’t get; like Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, Steve Howe. I can name 50 people that got third and fourth chances all because they weren’t outspoken black individuals.”

Boyd, 52, was 78-77 with a 4.04 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 799 strikeouts in 10 major-league seasons. He has a book -- "They Call Me Oil Can" -- coming out this summer.

forVaTech01, he's not just a member of the culture of entitlement, he's the President.

He's an embarassment to his race--the HUMAN race.

Really, Can? Let me see if I've got this straight: Other black men, men who YOU are not at all hesitant to imply are NOT proud like you, found that they still had a lot of friends even when they'd repeatedly screwed the pooch and cost their teams success and money and grief. These other black men, each of whom had on their backs the very same monkey that you had placed on yours, were treated generously, as if they were still loved. You, on the other hand, being a so-called "proud black man," didn't receive such help, not because you hadn't in any way earned it, but because they were guilty of "bigotry."

You self-pitying, angry old wreck of a man, I've got an alternative explanation for you. You're a freakin' jackass, a clown, and a major league JERKWAD. Blow it out your ***!!

Oil Can plays the victim card.  Blame it all on somebody else.  Take no responsibility.  Product of the culture of entitlement.

Soon there will be real news to report other than this. This story should get yanked for a real story about 2012, and not something that we all know. And if you didn't have a clue about players like this, Strawberry, Gooden, Lawrence Taylor, etc than you are either a teenager or a moron. Many pro athletes have their top perfomances under the influence. Let's move on to relevant info.

I remember trading Boyd's card for a Roger Clemens card back when I was in grade school.  The other kid needed it to complete his set.  I bet that card can cut a mean line of coke.

Yawn...no one wants to hear about it you tired old junkie, good try to hype the book sales.  Being part of the biggest failure ever the 1986 Red Sawx is your claim to fame.  Don`t bring down the other class acts that were on that team & not high as a kite or oil can on fire.
