Canseco earns tryout with Mexican team

Shockingly unable to get a deal with the A's by asking on Twitter, Jose Canseco is headed to Mexico in an attempt to restart his baseball career.

Canseco, 47, earned a tryout with the Quintana Roo Tigers of the Mexican League, the team announced on Sunday.

The former MVP and Rookie of the Year had taken to Twitter to beg A's general manager Billy Beane for a tryout earlier this offseason. Beane, obviously, didn't bite.

Canseco last played in the majors in 2001 for the White Sox and in the minor leagues for the White Sox in 2002. In parts of 17 seasons Canseco hit .266/.353/.515 with 462 home runs, in a career he's admitted was aided greatly by steroids.

Last year, Canseco played in 64 games with the Yuma Scorpions of the North American Baseball League, hitting .256/.371/.427 with eight home runs. He played in other independent leagues in 2001, 2006 and 2010.

Canseco took to Twitter on Sunday to confirm the news.

Canseco earns tryout with Mexican team

I saw Canseco strike out 3 times in an independent league game this past season against mediocre talent. He was a complete joke and the laughing stock of the stadium. good luck dirtbag

An update - Jose has been cut after a fly ball to the warning track again bounces off his noggin and into the stands.  Defense is a priority in the Mexican League.

Wasn't the Armada the team that lost everything to the British off the English coast? My Sources in Mexico say that twin bro Ozzie will also travel with the team to spell the aging 47-year old twice a week after Jose has a losing bout with tequila. On a side note, those same Mexican sources claim that the drug cartels and various kidnappers have expressed zero interest in obtaining {kidnapping) Jose as his value to anyone in the U.S. has been reduced to a few dozen pesos and a donkey at best.

Why would anyone want him on their team, the guy is and always has been a LOSER, he must be broke and is in desperate need of some money so at the age of 47 is going to try out for a AAA team, is this team that desperate for a player that they're willing to take a drug addict loser, everything he accomplished in his professional career he was under the influence (As he looks in the above photo)...I'm sure there is a younger guy out there somewhere who actually deserves a chance and would be a better fit for the team, my advice to Jose is...DUDE, GIVE IT A REST, YOU'RE SO WASHED UP AND DONE ALREADY.

Canseco earns tryout with Mexican team

i was never a canseco fan, but i like the fact he blew the lid off baseball and the steroid era. he started it and he ended it. he told the truth, while mcgwire and clemens lied about it.  i think canseco is just playing to play baseball now more than the money.  i dont think he is seeking a multi million dollar contract and would play for baseballl min wage.
