For the first time since his relapse, Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton answered questions on Wednesday, speaking with his Pastor, Dr. James Robison, on GBTV.com, the online home of right-wing political commentator Glenn Beck.

Hamilton said he was undergoing a "Josh Hamilton makeover," going to "one-on-one" counseling, as well as counseling sessions with his wife, Katie.

"I'm doing good. I'm well, my family's well. We're taking this as a serious issue," Hamilton said. "I had a slip-up in '09 and moving past that, it was, 'OK, I'm fine. It was one night, everything's over.' We didn't really move back towards what cause me to slip-up, why did I all of a sudden choose to do this? And it happened again.

"This time, it's not just, 'OK, it happened, we'll move past it and maybe it won't happen again.' We want to find out why it continues to happen. It's not on a regular basis, but whether it's things in my life, whether it's stress or home things, or whatever the case may be, those things might be a trigger."

Hamilton said his faith will be the focus of the makeover.

"It's going to be a process," Hamilton said. "I'm not fixed. I'm doing things right a day at a time. I can always use prayer from people."

He spoke about his relationship with his wife and daughters, and that he was concentrating on communicating with them better. He said that's improved since his relapse.

"It has been a special time," Hamilton said. "The communication the last one-and-a-half weeks has been more than there has been in the past eight years. I'm not saying I haven't been communicating but it has been more meaningful communication."

He didn't shy from taking responsibility or having to live in the public eye.

"Thank you to everyone who has been supporting me," Hamilton said. "You guys know my heart, and I think you sense that. Me, personally, I'm going to do everything I can do to break these walls down and become a better man, a role model, and someone your little ones can to and want to strive to be like one day -- a man who is not perfect, but admits to his mistakes and wants to get better."

It's called AA Josh. Anything else is folly. Meeting Makers Make It.
I wish people would wake up and smell the empirical evidence...AA fails haaaaard....in fact, it fails so hard that it has lower rates of success than spontaneous remission!!!! (<- that means quitting with NO form of treatment in this scenario).  It's simply astounding the levels of ignorance that our society so often allows itself to wallow in...though it's not shocking that people assume AA "works" when you have the likes of judges mandating it daily, and schlocks like Dr. Drew hawking variations of it...Embarassed

Gotta say this, and this is coming from a somewhat agnostic. My dad told me once " how dare you question someones faith!!" This is coming from someone who I believe is an agnostic at best. He is a guy who has a PHD in engineering from Georgia Tech. AT the time I thought he was crazy. The reason he said this is i asked "how a engineer can believe in god?" This was many years ago. I look back at what he said and can now say "much wisdom is there" That being said, I do not go to church, or plan to, but again, us as humans are very trivial in our "knowing". DOn't be so judgemental. You might be surprised on peoples view of the world, whatever there framework might come from.
How dare your dad plant that seed of ignorance!  You absolutely should and must question all matters of faith, as faith simply means belief sans evidence. Would you simply believe me if the airline pilot told you that an invisible elephant was guiding his flying of the airplane, or would you say "I can't question his faith"...?  You don't have to be "hateful" or "judgemental"....but failure to question faith is to willfully revert to the ages of pre-scientific thinking.

Hamilton says he's undergoing a 'makeover'

Alcoholism is a day to day struggle...Josh Hamilton is no different than millions of other Americans who have the same disease/problem. They all don't play for the Texas Rangers, but yo uwould be surprised at how many sports stars are in AA...people from all works of life and socio-economic classes, races, colors, you name it. We're all there every week.

It's not about being scrutinized for throwing back a few...it's doing the right thing afterwards and getting your life back on track. It's never easy, just one day at a time. I hope he makes it.

It must suck to not be able to go out and put a few down without being scrutinized in the public eye and the media.

Well said. People always root for people to fail. Hamilton will fail again (we all do) but will be a success in life.
