Josh Hamilton

By C. Trent Rosecrans

After his most recent relapse, the Rangers put their extension talks with Josh Hamilton on hold. Despite the way the Rangers have supported Hamilton through two public relapses, the former MVP said he doesn't feel like he owes the team and doesn't expect an extension before the end of the season, when he can become a free agent.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Hamilton had this to say (via the Fort Worth Star-Tribune):
"The Rangers have done a lot for me, but I've got a question for ya'll: Have I done a lot for the Rangers?" Hamilton said. "I think I've given them everything I've had, and I don't think anybody can say I haven't. When it comes down to it, what people don't understand, is this is a business.

"I love Texas, I love my fans, I love the fans of the Rangers, I love the organization, I love my teammates, I love everything about it. But I'm not going to sit here and say I owe the Rangers, because I don't feel like I owe the Rangers."
I have a good friend who is a Rangers fan and she's not happy with the comments, and I can see how Rangers fans would feel that way. On the other hand, he's been paid to do a job and he's done it. If the Rangers weren't happy with him or his ability to do it, they don't have to offer Hamilton a contract after the season -- I'm pretty sure someone else will. That's the beauty of the free market.

Hamilton says he doesn't 'owe the Rangers'

Josh is absolutely right. He does not owe the Rangers anything. He has played hard for them since he was traded there from the Reds. All he owes the Rangers is his effort everytime he goes out onto the field. As for the people saying that the Rangers gave him a chance at redeption, that is incorrect. Josh Hamilton got his redemption with the Reds, and then they traded him away.

Hamilton says he doesn't 'owe the Rangers'

That is how a crackhead thinks...the mentality....it can be very disturbing and unfortunate....I am not saying that he is a crackhead.  That is how my ex-wife became, arrogant and unapologetic.  It was sad.  He does not owe the Rangers??? WTF??  Did they not give him a chance at redemption?  IT IS SAD.

Hamilton says he doesn't 'owe the Rangers'

Speaking as one lonely Rangers Fan I disagree with all this Fan angry talk. I've got nothing but good vibes from the club and you know what? They are winning as a team! One man does not make a team. Also, I find nothing wrong with comments like this because they really don't mean anything. What means something is what's done on the field. If Josh can put another solid year together without too much time off he'll get that big contract. Gratz to him. Fielder too I might add. We've had our dance with outrageiousness (A-Rod) and found it lacking. I'd be happy to just see the sport maitain it's drug free edge. Go Rangers!

Hamilton says he doesn't 'owe the Rangers'

That's kind of an arrogant thing to say in my opinion. True, he doesn't owe them anything, but you don't have to come out and say it. The Rangers should trade him midseason because it doesn't sound like he wants to stay.

Hamilton says he doesn't 'owe the Rangers'

Why is it that only little market teams or teams from the midwest (Cleveland with LeBron, Milwaukee with Fielder, now Dallas with Hamilton) feel that their players owe them?  Phillies fans certainly didn't feel that way about JRoll, and we have a lot more history with Jimmy than the Rangers with Josh.  3 or 4 years for less than $10 mill?  OK.  More?  It would have been good luck JRoll--see you around the circuit.  Phillies fans were upset with Rolen because of what he said about us.  Here, Hamilton has nothing but love.  So give a rest Texas.

Hey pelicans...did you just jump the river at Jaurez? My god, how about a "Hooked On Phonics" tape purchase with your next govt. check. Geez there Pedro...give it a rest. You not only don't know what your talking about, but if you even did understand you can't put together an intelligent and coherent sentence to express it. Back across the Rio Grande with you.

Rangers would be stupid if they give Josh a big contract. He is too risky.
